Alignment-specific techs bug?

Forgive me if this has been addressed in 1.4A . . . I didn't see anything in the notes about it though.

In my last game I wound up being neutral, and my neighbors the Torians were good. At some point they called me up and offered to trade me Arnorean Battle Armor for some crappy tech . . . Well, at least that's what it said in the text box when they contacted me, but on the diplomacy screen I noticed that the trade was actually my tech for nothing. Still, being curious I accepted it to see whether or not I actually got the armor, and it turns out I didn't. So they ripped me off Later on they called me up again and wanted to trade it (again!) for a different tech. No thanks, jerk. . . hehe . . .

Later on I became a little sick of the Torian's obscene influence (they beat me to the Restaurant and had two influence resources . . . ouch) so I started raiding their worlds. After I took one of their planets the tech I stole was Arnorean Battle Armor. Or at least that's what it told me. I tried making a dummy ship to see if I could use it and it wasn't available to me.

I don't know if there is a problem is with the battle armor itself or alignment-specific techs in general. I never had this happen with any other tech, but that may juat have been chance. Seems like the game is correctly preventing me from actually obtaining the tech, but other parts of the game aren't checking to see if I'm allowed to have it before trying to give it to me.

That Torian was sly, trading you a tech he knew you couldn't use.
I guess he figured you were just the opposite of sly.

I've had this happen a few times. Some neutral race kept trying to trade some neutral tech for concepts of malice. From memory though, I do actually remember an increase in total trade routes, but that might have been because of something else.

It's quite simple actually...

If you're alignment doesn't match, you can't research or trade the techs.

You don't "see" the tech (either in diplomacy or shipbuildin gs screens) and you don't get the bonusses if your alignment doesn't match the tech.

No Arnorian battle armor for Neutral and evil races,
No neutrality trade centers for good and evil races,
No psionic weapons for good and neutral races.

Yes, we know that. However, you can steal the techs, or be offered them in trade, which is confusing, especialy for newcomers.

Aw come on, I'm plenty sly . I was just curious to see what happened. And later I made him pay *dearly* for cheating me. Let's just say he wasn't a big fan of my disrupters by the end of the game . . .

I'm well aware of that. What seems like a bug is that the game kept trying to give it to me me in various ways . . . first with the bogus Torian trade and later when I supposedly captured it in a raid. I would have liked to get something else in the raid, but instead I just got ripped off because I suppose the logic for capturing tech didn't check whether or not I was allowed to have it before selecting it as the tech I "stole". And the Torian trade was clearly broken, and what made it worse was that even after I accepted their "trade" they kept calling me up and offering to "trade" it again for other techs.

It's not really a big deal . . . just seems like some checks against alignment requirements are missing in a few places in the game logic.
