can't get changeges ability point to work

from GalCiv2 Forums
try give my self the ability points in following files :english ,Racecofig,abilitybounus. but none of them changes, show up when I start a new game. So can someone please tell me what suppose do for changes to works. (oh autoupdater had it update it me)

on unrelated note: why does heck does updater think need to restart computer ever time update application. from understand that restart computer only need system files are updated not when game has it files to changes.

Wrong. Every time a file is changed, it needs to be booted with the computer recognising it.

And for it to work, you can't have any custom races.

Really? Then how come I can I can crack open a text file, fiddle with the contents, save it, and then re-open it again and not have to reboot ?

It is more along the lines that you need to reboot anytime the system is currently using a file that has been updated. I'm not sure why it would happen every time you update. I had to do it on Beta 3, but that was the only one.

You should be able to change the raceconfig.xml file and then start a new game and see the changes. (haven't actually done this yet.) I know you can edit a .raceconfig file and load it as a custom race and the changes will be there. (have done this). Also this only works in non-metaverse games.

It's because Windows is a piece of crap that, like many insulated modern people, cannot handle change well.

Too bad most games won't run natively on Linux eh?

abilitybones seem to be what I want.
figure out folllowing
1st off can't add more option to exist ability in game that in defualt
But can modifed numbers.
2ndly add ability not specifyed in file can max 4 option in it


as for neeed reboot sytem only brought up that is because only files that use or run all time system (ex. os files on harddrive)
need reboot for them to work. want to know for staff stardock why heck they put there.
