Neutrality Learning Center problem

I've been playing for about a 2 weeks now. Having read the praises of the NLC in other posts, I decided to align neutral and research for that tech in my current game. Well, I've done both of those things, but the NLC isn't available in my build lists.

Am I missing another prerequisite to access this building or have I hit upon a known bug?

Thx

The building was added in beta-3 of 1.1 so that might be the problem. It isn't available in any previous version of the game. You also have to start a new game after upgrading to be able to use it.

One point that got me the first time around is that NLC is a specific tech in the "research center" line. Have you researched NLC yet?

Another thing to keep in mind is that there is no automatic upgrade of older tech buildings to NLC - you need to manually upgrade each tile.

Oddly enough I just recieved the tech for neutrality learning center after a conquest and my race's alignment is good. I didnt bother to check if I could actually build though as their was only a couple turns left before my eventual conquest. I guess I will have to try and find that old save and try and build one.

Does anyone know if this is possible, is it a bug in the current version? Can you get all of the alignment specific techs through conquest? If so, that would be kinda silly to see all three temples built on the same planet.

I've had NLC researched for several turns now. I'll try the manual upgrade tonight, but I doubt that's the problem since I can't even build an NLC on an empty space.

you should make sure you could even build it tho, one time i got the Evil Missile Tech when i was playing a Good Civ and still wasn't able to build the weapons.

And about the NLC, make sure you go thru the Research Tech line. On a side question tho, would it practicle to replace my research centers with NLCs? if i remember it's Tech:22 and Maint:4. I havn't had time to look at the maxed research centers for a comparison.

The maxed research centers are tech 20.

As mentioned previously, the building Neutrality Learning Center was not introduced in the 1.0, even though the tech existed. The tech did nothing.

This was a bug that has been corrected in 1.1 since Beta 3.

I played beta 3 and 4. i could never build the NLC. Maybe another german version bug, as i cannot build manufacturing oder politcal capitals.

Yes, the NLC is better than most, if not all, research improvements. I don't remember if I've compared it to a discovery sphere, but I seem to remember that it beats everything prior to a DS.

Yes, you do have to start a game using 1.1 beta 3 or later.

I believe that if you're not Neutral, you can't build them even if you have the tech, but I'm not certain.

I've been using them in Beta 4. I upgraded from 3 to 4 after having researched them, but didn't ever find them in my build lists. Think you need to start a new game to get them to show up.

You need a Neutral alignment (obviously) and then to research as far as Research Academy. Then it'll be next in the tech tree. And when you get them, replace ALL other research facilities with them and don't worry about what they cost. They can produce more research than even a Discovery Sphere, long before you ever get as far researching DS.

NLC = 22 TP
Discover Sphere = 20 TP

NLC is the best. It's cheaper to build (300 vs 350) than the DS and makes more research points (22 vs 20). You can't use techs that you capture that are of a different alignment than yours BUT you can use their buildings if you capture them.
