AI creates multiple Starports??

I've noticed that when I "conquer" (usually through influence) an AI planet they're always building starports and then "upgrading" then into other buildings, is there any method to this madness? I've also noticed if I just kill the starports they seem to be on unusable tiles anyways (at least at my current level of terraforming)...

I have noticed this as well. I've seen it in ALL the versions of the game including the very latest Beta build. Though, this "bug" only appears early in the game, on planets that have been recently colonized for the first time. I.e. like the above poster said, AI colonizes a world, and player takes it via influence a few weeks (turns) later. This doesn't seem to affect the actual gameplay in any way...but it is just odd.

Yep, i've seen it too.

Turned a PQ4 into a PQ3, was kinda funny, like the poison pill the Iconians left for me there

They also build multiple orbital thingys that allow ships in orbit to act as a fleet. Don't know why you would need two of them.

There are two things that come to mind.

1 - It's a bug.

2 - Maybe the AI knows of a trick. Upgrading buildings takes signifigantly less time than building them new doesn't it? I've never upgraded over a starport so I don't know but maybe it possible that it doesn't matter if you just upgrade to a better version of that building. Maybe by building a starport in 2 or 3 turns first and then upgrading to say a factory actually cuts the build time by a significant amount.

Astax: Now who do I email the save of Torian planet with 3 starports to?

Frogboy: Astax - known. Not sure why it's doing that. But it's on our list. Not for 1.1.

Yes, I have seen this. Got an AI planet last night with one starport and one building. Deleted the one building and found that the starport remaining would not work. Had to demolish and rebuild.

I was also getting planets without starports and yes a lot of wierd overbuilding. I think part of it may be a scorched earth strategy by the A when they know the planet is going to fall.

Then, I may be giving them too much credit.

Maybe it's using them to "store" social construction for faster upgrading later?

The interesting thing is, the player builds a starport, they can't build another one on planet.

Which player is doing this?

It's ont cheating though, in fact, it's detrimental to the AI since it still can only build 1 ship at a time.

Frogboy,

I've found that the Yor are the most likely culpurits, however I've seen this or similar with just about all the AIs...I tend to play conquest by culture as military conquest takes too long and is messy...And the Yor have a tendancy to fall faster than the other races (with the exception of the Korx --but they're almost never next to me). I'm running 1.1b3 at the momment, but as someone else mentioned I've seen it with earlier versions aswell...

I'm sure I've seen it from the Iconians, and I think from the Korx or Torians as well. Want a saved game?
