Randomize Difficulty Question

I started a new game yesterday with the Randomize Difficulty option. For 5 AIs and a Normal base difficulty I got 2 Normal and 3 Bright AIs. My question is this: Is this working as intended? I would think that the intelligence of the AIs would *average* out to normal. Something along the lines of say 1 Sub-Normal, 3 Normal, 1 Bright. Either that or maybe I just don't understand exactly what the option does to the AI. Either way it would be nice to know what its affect on the AI actually is.

I don't know how they coded this of course but in general, when you generate a random number in a program its within a range of specified numbers, so perhaps it generates a range of possible difficulties with your selected difficulty being the value from which to diverge. Maybe, again I have no idea how they coded it so I'm really just mouthing off. Of course I'm sure they could have made them average out to whatever difficulty you chose, but I guess they didn't think that was aa good way to do it???

In the readme of the beta patch it states.......

+ New Option: Randomize player intelligence. This will scramble opponent intelligence by around +/- 10 points to have more variance.

So I assume it will mean +/- 10 from the level of difficulty chosen.

I was just thinking that myself as I need a little more of a challenge now on the 'normal' setting. I might even try 'challenging' with the randomise option.

Yeah I remember patch note about the +/- 10 points. But 10 points of what? Abilities?

I'm also trying to find a sweet spot for my games. With the new AI tweaks in B3 Normal is definitely a LOT easier then before. And I like having the AIs be a bit of an unknown. It just struck me as off in some way when I realized that I had more higher level AIs in a game that was set for a lower difficulty since Bright doesn't show up until Challenging difficulty. I guess I just need to tinker with the settings a little more and pay closer attention to the AI stats. I wonder if the new scoring system takes into account the AI intelligence of if it is based solely on the base difficulty.
