Vapor trail or exhaust in space not near my engines

I have one minor graphics bug. I get some kind of short flaming vapor trail, that I guess is supposed to be my ship's exhaust(?) but at times its sitting in space just below or sometimes just above my ship. Its not a damage indicator--it occurs on undamaged vessels, and is noted mostly on the battle screen. Any one else have this? Suggestions to get rid of it?

I have the same problem, but for some reason nobody responds to these so you can't really know how to solve it or if its a bug or what.
