Guard/Sentry

This has been brought up before, but I've not seen it addressed by the developers on forums or in a change log.

Well, no matter how many times it has been discussed, and no matter how many people explain what the intended difference is, and over the course of regular play since the hour the game was released...... I still can't get Sentry and Guard to work differently than one another. Worse, neither works the way I want.

They both wake up the ship as soon as another ship is in its line of site, even if it's a micro-freighter, and often if it's not hostile. I desperatly want a way to tell a ship to sit there forever unless I click on it no matter what happens ever for the rest of time.

I am sick of putting my sensor arrays back to sleep every single turn. It's very frustrating when it's just one ship it keeps happening to. When it's several it is a regular nightmare and I have simply disbanded sensor arrays and random ships to save the hassle. I have also quit sending freigthers to alien planets before I research trade route increasing techs. I'd rather not have to deal with the annoyance of my trade ships waking up every single turn than get the added in-game benefit of trade routes starting the exact turn they are able to.

Please, Stardock. Please give us a, "Shut up and Never Bother Me Again" command for our ships.

Yeah sleeping ships would be great, having them awake when a hostile enemy is in their range of sight would better.

I agree. I request this feature : )

Or change sentry mode to 'wake up only when ships from races I'm at war with'. And I don't understand the difference between sentry and guard either! Maybe we should bump this thread enough times until it gets attention!

I have wrote several times about the very same subject, but nobody gave support then.

I think Sentry should be true Sleep mode. The guard mode should be working as it is, wake up when enemy on sight.

maybe Guard mode should have to be attatched to another ship, planet or starbase? so you set it to guard over something? and it intercepts any hostile ship which approaches it.

And sentry keeps with the meaning of the world Sentry. I.e it Watches for movement and keeps an eye open for potential hostiles.

IMO, Sentry should become Sleep and Guard should wake on hostile ships.

Oh, and you can't bump your own posts, it doesn't work.

Yes it does. There is a short delay.

guard does wake up ships as soon as hostiles come near, doesnt it? at least thats what i thought ... i rarely use it because it is so easy to build eyes of the universe and then i dont have need for senser ships

sleep would be useful tho

MegaVotl, right now both options wake your ship when an enemy ship -- even a mini-freighter -- comes into its radar range. Also I believe that one of them (or both) will also wake up the ship when any ship at all comes into range. At least I know that I've often not been able to find an enemy ship that has awakened mine for the nth time.

I find that this problem gets worse for me when I build the Eyes. I play larger maps so I still need sensor ships. And lots of them. So I'm pushing Guard/Sentry a dozen times every turn for the same ships, which are in no danger whatsoever, and would be cheaply replaced if they were lost anyway.

I'm dying to see this on a change log for a patch.
