ScreenShots

Seems people think I don't like ScreenShots.  Thats not true.  I've commented on a bunch and have featured some.  Just excapes me how people have all that time to upload a couple a day.  Seems to me if they change their desktop that often, they must not have liked what was there.  If thats the case why upload it?  But nothing I or anyone else can say will change anyones mind on this subject.

I do have 1 request that seems fair.  When you upload a screenshot, how about giving the names of the skins/walls used so people can download them if they like some of the skins that was used.  I see every screenshot thats uploaded and at times I like some of what I see and would like to download it but can't as the discription is blank.  If your going to showcase someone elses work at least give them props.

I figured I would bring this back as some people must not have seen it.  I'am still having to email people to ask what was that wall, WB or some other skin.  If your going to spend time making and upload SS, at least spend some time naming the skins and authors.

I did not mean to imply that linking to the wall removed the requierment to obscure the wall. Only that the screen shot compositor could avoid the near occasion of sin and tempation to extract the wall by just linking to the original. No control given or lost.

The unobscured use of a wall image in a screenshot is itself an uncontrolled distribution of the wall.

Linking to a source is irrelevant.

The difference between the two forms of 'distribution' is that IF the author so wishes, by deleting the 'source' he also nullifies the link thus controlling BOTH.

However, he has no direct control over the screenshot with the unobscured wall therein.

THAT becomes the issue of distribution 'control', hence our request that the wall at least be made fairly 'difficult' to remove/extract.

A desktop screenshot should be just that, anyway, not some blank unobstructed picture of a wall....

I am in the minority, I guess    It takes me soooooo long to come up with a desktop I like... And to like enough for others to see it.....    I really don't understand how submitters are able to submit more than one screenshot per day or even week    I guess I need to go to screenshot school... hum...    so I can be a BIG submitter too!

It's not that I don't like my desktop, I just like to use many different skins to achieve something unique.

Still, I really don't see why everyone is so irritated about SS. If the Mod's (who I believe is Jafo, WOM, Fuzzy Logic in this post) don't like the SS then don't let it get loaded. Besides, I'm pretty much a noob to WC, but I have not seen any restrictions as to loading SS besides the guidelines. It REALLY angers me when I see a post by moderators basical flaming someone elses creation. Yes, I know most didn't create the actual WP or skins, but if someone were to come and Post some flame about skinners, well I don't think everyone would take to well to that. All I'm saying, is that I am getting extremely discouraged about my uploads now. You know, I paid up just like everyone else, and if there were rules about how many times I could upload in a day I would follow them, but there isn't. If the moderators feel that there needs to be a revision to policy they should state it, not try to discourage people about how many times to upload. Your personal views are yours, you don't have to make other people feel insecure about something they get enjoyment out of.

Not insecure, just figure if your going to reap the benifit from others works, at least say what it is your using and who made it. your doing that it seems, KiloKrash.  I like a lot of them and see things I missed and would like to add a wall, blind or whatever, to my computer, can't if the uploaded doesn't say anything.  Just because we don't like something doesn't mean we can kill it.  Thats not how it works.

Oh, I did not know that. Well anyway, I'll try to not load so many in such a short period of time from now on. Even though people want to see all of the Widgets and Gadgets, I really just appreciate a nice clean desktop. That's why I have loaded to many with everything open or showing in an expanded view. I guess I'll try to work on that. Also, to follow up on that not letting the SS to load comment, I just thought you guys (Mod's) had the power to do that. Thanks for clearing that up WOM

Just now noticed this thread. As someone who hasn't a clue on how these skins are made I can really appreciate the work that must go into them. However, every skinner must know that once they submit their work to the world it is going to be used by people in any number of ways that personalize their desktop. That's what this is all about. Yes, sites like this provide a place for artists to show off their creations but there are no bouncers at the door to stop the "common fo'k" from entering and commenting.

I love looking at the screen shots because they show the many different ways that people can take some of the same items and build upon them to possible make something larger in impact and beauty than the original. I know that really pisses some skinners off but that's the way it is. None of this is a put down on either the people who build the original skins or the works themselves. It is just a recognition that by releasing something you have given up control over how it will be used.

Ultimately each person on this site can choose whether or not they want to look at any item. It's like watching TV. Don't like a channel? Than just change it and don't go there again. Either content is open for all or no one. The days of restricting who gets what and how it will be used are gone for better or worse.

A person's work may be publicly accessible to all and sundry but no LEGAL control is 'given up' at all.

Copyright Law [within the countries who are signatories to the Berne Treaty] still limits how that work can be used/distributed/reproduced.

For that reason there ARE 'bouncers at the door'.  People who blatantly fail to respect property rights can be [and have been] summarily 'bounced'.

It's all about 'appreciating the work that goes in them'.

To that end, it's really only fitting to acknowledge those whose works you display in your screenshots....
