Central only way to update?

Just got the game and I'm trying to update the retail version but when I click on the link all I get are the collector addition perks download page.  I take it I must install stardock to get updates (something I REALLY don't want to do)?

You have to register it first through StarDock - then you can get the updates. Stardock Central is simply a download manager - if you don't want to use it permanaently install it to register and to get the updates, then uninstall it until the next time you want to use it. BTW, it is a clean app - I watched it with my Firewall and ID software and it does nothing I don't tell it to do.

I guees you can also contact Stardock to register it another way - email them to find out.

The downloads section has it, it was just misnamed. Click on "Retail Edition" and download it, that's all you need. SDC has beta's, but I guess if you don't trust SDC you won't want anything to do with them

I agree, you shouldn't have to install a secondary program to update software. When I had GCiv1 on my computer I wasn't able to uninstall stardock central at all, I kept getting an error when trying to uninstall it! Maybe they fixed that by now, I was going to install it anyway cuz I need my space strategy fix, but I agree that it is kinda lame. It seems like a shameless way to plug their other products if you ask me.

It beats having to install a Rootkit that will destroy your system like Starfarce. Or some other DRM scheme that will not allow you to run other legitimate software you have purchased.

Iif you don't want SDC, don't install it. You can still activate and download the game and updates - it just takes longer to get it set up There are many threads that tell you how - or simply email Stardock for assistance.
