Colonization Random Events

I bought the game here about 2 weeks ago (german version) and after I got downloaded the english version and got the latest update I really enjoy it. Unfortunately this resulted in the game being only 95% localized (dunno why perhaps because i simply moved the old installation path to another location and also installed the game into the same directory several times). So I ended up with some minor aspects that i don't fully understand. When I colonize a planet the may be random events like natives or orbiting ships.
If you happen to get this 'advanced ship in orbit' event and choose the evil way you would get a ship bonus (roughly retranslated from german) - so what is the effect? Do I get a production bonus for ships (military production) or do I get a bonus to the HP of all ships produced on that planet?
Another thing are bonus fields with the small blue waterdrop as bonus symbol. It says that one gets an X% bonus to happyness-effects for buildings on this field. Unfortunately I have only buildings granting a morale bonus - does this mean the same?

Hey Loknar - Toldar here - I am not sure which the "ship in orbit"-event is, but the happyness fields concern your moral buildings as well as other monuments that might effect the moral.

If you have any questions you know where to contact me...

Btw: I didnt even install the German version. Just punched in the serial code and downloaded the english version. It is great btw and not to hard to understand...

I know what you mean by the "Ship in Orbit" event. It's a morale choice that occurs on colonization where an advanced shp is in orbit with a small crew. You an either take the ship and learn its advances, or let it go and get nothing.

I am not certain, but I think the ship bonus refers to hit points of future ships built on that planet, and that's all - no weapons or defense bonus, and no military production bonuses.

No... the "ship bonus" event adds to the attack and defense values of ships produced at that world. Not HP.

And it rounds down, so if it's a small bonus, you might never notice.

I figured it only applies to that planet. But, if you make the 'evil' choice, you can get up to +23% Ship bonus. Are you sure it wouldn't be noticable?

Yeah, this "ship in orbit" is actually called the "Pirate Lair" event, where they will approach you and ask if you want to do business. If you choose the neutral or evil path, you will get a % bonus to your Starship built on that planet. That means every ship that is produced from here will gain that bonus % to their weapon and defense value. At first it is barely noticeable, but later on when you have big weapons, it becomes insanely powerful.

This, by far, is my favorite colonization event, much more than the PQ events, and instantly make this world one of my primary industrial planets, and will probably end up with the manufacturing capitol along with several economic base in the vicinity. It's sole purpose is to produce top of the line ships. I really hate it when I get this on one of those tiny little planets though...

EDIT: I've actually gotten 49% from this event once. Made my ships invincible...

Ah thanks alot for those quick answers. @Dilanor: Should have done that too - only downloading the english version. But now it runs smoothly and I don't want to reinstall it another time, although the german translation is sometimes a hard to understand (they often translated a word at to locations in the game into two different words which leads to misunderstandings )
Btw: the bonus is actually 47% so I'd say that I would notice it - although I doubt that I would ever produce ships on that planet since it turned out to have 4 research bonus fields ...

The ship bonuses affect the Attack and Defense values of any ship you build there. They increase by the amount that you choose in the bonus.

Isn't there also an event with a single advanced ship in orbit. You choose what to do with the ship, strip it for parts if evil. I don't think he's talking about the pirate lair event.

There are two events. The advanced ship in orbit and the evil pirates. My understanding is that it only affects things done on that planet.

Hi!
the "ship bonus" event adds to the attack and defense values of ships produced at that world. Not HP.

It gives ONLY attack bonus to ships constructed there. No defense bonus whatsoever. I should know, have a "+52 ships" planet producing ships with 4-4-0 defenses, and those remain the same, as on ships produced elsewhere. But attack... 13 instead 9 rocks!

But both events affect atttack and defense ratings the same - correct?

(Glad this topic came up, btw - I obviously thought it was just an HP bonus. Extra attack and defense is a bit more interesting.)

I know what Brillig means by the samll bonus not being noticed, though. I once had a "sentient worm" event that gave -3% PQ to me if I chose the "good" choice. (and something like a +15% PQ for the "evil" choice.) It was a PQ 4 planet to start with... Really no reason not to take the "good" choice...

Double post - sorry, except that it has given me a chance to respond that now I see that only the attack rating is affected by the event.
