Beta 2 Invasion Bug and Upgrade Bug

Has anyone else seen these?

I posted this in the sticky as well, but I wondered if anyone else has seen this, or knows what maybe be causing either of these.

Invasion bug:
The Invasion bug with defender ships in orbit is still in this version. I reported this bug in 1.0X, and hadn't seen it again until last night. Here is what happened:

I went to attack an AI world with a fleet that included a transport. Instead of fighting the defending ships in orbit, the screen went directly to a traditional invasion screen, completely bypassing their defense.

(This seems to happen only when attacking a race that you are not at war with. In other words, when this attack is the one that declares war on the other race.)

Upgrade bug:
Upgrading trade ships has taken away the option to put trade, constructor, or colony modules on the ship. What's more; it also gives me a free trade module on the ship, so that it has no cost or weight. This lets me load it with many more engines or lifesupport modules than I normally would be able to.

You can reproduce this by loading up a game, or starting a new game and open a previously built trade ship and hit the upgrade button. It will take off all modules, but act like the trade module is still on the ship. Load it up with whatever you want, and send it out to create a trade route, and it will work - without adding a trade module.

Both of these bugs occured on a "tough" difficulty level, in a metaverse game (using 1.1 beta 2 build 010). I have the save game for both of these bugs, if Stardock would like it.

I noticed the "Upgrade Bug" that you mentioned. I first saw it when I finished researching the Trade tech and went to the ship designer. The "core" Transport that was provided said it could trade, but there is no visible Trade Module on the hull. As far as I could tell it is an empty Bulk Hull. Also, it was the wrong ship design. It was a Terran hull and I selected to use the Altaran designs.

Hello All -

I too have experienced the same bugs. My variation on the bug is custom designed ship with troop modules, when attacking a mining starbase - the game hangs. No combat screen, and after a few minutes of waiting - the entire game crashes.

I am using 1.1 beta 2 build 010

Seen the 'Upgrade Bug' (and exploited it). Haven't seen the 'Invasion Bug'

(EDIT: Also using the Beta2 version)

I'll try this when I get home, but I think the 'invasion bug' is caused by attacking a race in which you are not already at war with a fleet that includes both transports and fighters. You won't be given an option for which kind of warfare you plan on using (You are forced to use traditional ground warfare), but if you win, you will be given control of the other races ships that were in orbit.

I'll post here how my test goes.

Thanks for reporting these.

The upgrade bug is squashed, so enjoy it while you can

I'm looking into the invasion bug too.

Doctor Evil, your variation sounds like it might be a different problem from the others, and I couldn't reproduce it. If you have a saved game, and wouldn't mind sending it to gc2bugs@stardock.com, that would really help us out. Please put a link to this forum thread and a copy of your debug.err file in your e-mail message.

Thanks.

Martimus, I would like to see your saved game for the invasion problem. Please email the save and debug.err file to gc2bugs@stardock.com.
Thanks.

I'll send it tonight. I'll also check my theory on what caused the bug as well.

I noted the upgrade one and sent a save file off a night ago. I also noticed that in addition to the module being part of the ship, engines were getting discount spaced. It listed that they would take 7 points of space, but when adding them it was only adding either 3 or 4 points. I had a 50 move constructor with warp III engines and 7.0 range With impulse had a 20 mover.

I have figured out how to reproduce the invasion bug. Build any fleet with at least one troop transport and at least one attack capable ship. Use that fleet to attack any defended planet of a race that you are not currently at war with. The screen will come up to ask you if you want to declare war, and after you say yes the transport will completely ignore the defending ships and will perform a traditional ground war with the population. If you win the battle, you will be given control of all defenders in orbit around that planet.

Actually, you don't even need attack capable ships in your fleet (I just checked). Just attack a race that you are not already at war with with transports, and you will not only bypass their defenses, but will also gain any ships that they had in orbit as your own when you win.
