Getting really frustrated with all these crashes

I bought this game, collectors edition. I'm now debating being a big jerk and giving sales hell until I get my money back. Galciv2 crashes at least 3-4 times a day(I play each day, coupla hours). I'm really getting sick of it. Is there going to be an improvement at all? Its not just one particular thing, its between turns, during turns, ship movment, colony screen, ship creator tool, etc etc. Such a great game...is the code just that bad?

Well, since there aren't lots of crash reported, there is maybe something strange on your side.
Are you playing the 1.0X version, which fixes lots of crashes and prevents the graphic card to heat too much?
Could you install smart Exception, and post the associated report when experiencing a crash?

In short, if you don't give any detailled information to help to locate the reason of the crash, it will be very hard to have the crash fixed: the Devs aren't monitoring your computer. They need the detailled informations from smatrt exception and the debug.err file.

Well I had crashes (to be exact complete PC freezes) too during gameplay - it seemed total random and I had the newest drivers installed... well ac couple of days back a brand new Omega driver was released - I installed it and since then I ahve no problem any more - well apart from one: Sometimes there are some letters or numbers missing on the Buttons or throghout the rest of the gamescreen.

Wihout ANY kind of information, you wom't be helped. We need the debug.err from smartexception, or at least some kind of specs from your comp. Saying "it crashes, want my money" does jack all.

Well if anyone knows me, they know i've been having the same problems. And i've been thru all the hoops with all the files the devs and everyone else asked for. The result?? there hasn't been one. No one's seemed to firgure out why my computer crashes to restart every couple of hours. my BSoD usually says something like IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. No file is ever identified as the culprit. so....?

I have seen dozens of posts on crashes my friend. Where have you been. I have a new high end Dell designed for games and it happens to me at least once a day. Check the forums brother all I have seen is posts of crashes.

Still gotta love this game though.

I'm experiencing a LOT of crashes lately, but I'm also using beta patches so I won't go berserk on the forum - yet However, I guess there is a lot to be done before 1.1 is realeased since I had 30 crashed during one and the same game. All my drivers are constantly updated since I'm a complete geek about keeping my computer in good shape. I really hope the game will be stable at 1.1 release.. or I'll have to autosave on every turn....

We don't want a BSOD. That's your computer and not the game. The game will CTD, but I don't think it's BSOD.

Without even knowing what version you're running let alone what your hardware info is, it's hard to say what the problem is.  There are numerous sticky posts on this forum that explain what we need to help (such as the start of your debug.err).

While there have been "Dozens" of crash reports, one can also go through them and find that the majority of them end up being the result of a user having 2+ year old video drivers.

Similarly, if you're getting a BSOD, that's not the game. Only ring 0 processes can do that (like drivers). There's not a lot we can do about that.

Regular, garden variety CTDs (Crash to desktop), even with the latest drivers, can happen. But in 1.0X, I'm not aware of any known issues that would cause (the beta of 1.1 has some but they're self inflicted and we're working on them).

Frogboy, I think a lot of people are "updating" their game version with the Beta material , thinking its an official update, through the Stardock client, as its set to offer Beta versions through the "availiable updates" menu by default.

I think this is just asking for trouble having beta patches availiable through the same utilitly as the official game updates. You might wish people were more savy about what they were applying to their game version, but its just never a good idea to keep the Scotch next to the Fruit Loops when the kids have the run of the house.

I had no crashes with 1.0X, even with four-five hour sessions, and I haven't had any crashes with beta1 either. Even with release I only saw crashes after many hours of play. I run a 6600GT/2Gb/3200-64 which is hardly 'high end'. No complaints here: Oblivion crashes far, far more often than GC2. Oblivion can't even exit without crashing on my system!

Binjack, SDC now defaults to having betas shown off by default.  (for new installs)

My computer is 3 years old. First CTD came after almost 2 days of solid game play. that's when I updated my video drivers. Second CTD came with the 1.1Beta, though I was going back and forth between resolution modes and windows mode.

That's it. In a month of use starting with the original version and upgrading to x, then installing both betas, I've had a total of 2 CTD's....both my fault.

It is a bit odd to see so many complaints.

Poor Frogboy,

Why don't you designate some volunteers to handle these posts. I don't recommand myself, but maybe someone who isn't a hot-head. SOmethign about an open internet forum jsut brings out the worst in me!

about BSoD's, it may be true that it's a computer problem, BUT the issue is, something in the game is causing the computer problem. Cause nothing, and i mean nothing else BSoD's or crashes my computer. Only happens when i play the game. I'm not complaining, love the game, and i'll continue to play it ad nauseum, but i'm just saying.

I'll try posting the debug from the game itself, but the post is about it happening so many times in so many different situations. Not one or two specific ones. Yes i'm running the latest version.

Wow. I didn't know this at all. I just assumed they were intelligent and if you bought the game(not playing beta) then they'd just set you up with the game patches, not any beta shit. That's just wrong.

Then try to get smart Exception for the free stuff in SDC and run it before running GC2. Its report will surely contains more useful informations for the devs.
