Why isn't it called Galactic Civilizations 4?

Okay, of course, I realize that the 03 GC was the first one on a Windows platform. But as one who was addicted to playing the OS/2 originals back in the day, I feel like relabelling GC3 to GC is erasing the game's heritage and letting people forget where it all began. The originals were fantastic games and deserve to have their own titles. Many series switch platforms, but still keep increasing the numbers.

Oh, forget all those. The Microsony PlayCube X-olution 2600, with its full digitalizing of your body and insertion within the game world, beats all those.

Naw, I am all for the the Play Station Portable, Implant Edition, complete with spinal mount rumble pack. Fighting games have never been this realistic!

After that, I'm all for the Dark Nintendo Revolution Android. Comes with a variety of 'skins' and expansions for the remote unit! You should see the Dead or Alive Centuari Beach Volleyball 2027 models. Yowza! Fortunately for the virtue of the young vat-children, Walmart-Next refuses to carry Playboy MoonBase Mansion, though they will now sell laser rifles to minors on Mars. (Unions have been crushed absolutely. Everybody is more worried about being locked OUT OF the Walmart City Biodome than being locked in.)

What? Why are you kids playing your video games on your body! When I was a lad, we played video games with our hands! And damn better it was than this "VR" tosh too, we got us some Repetitive Strain Injuries! That's the true spirit of gaming! And look at you all! All this excercise, making you skinny! In my day, we sat about eating crisps, and being sterotyped, and pretending to be insane madmen who'll slaughter your family! You kids nowadays, with your "Ability to actually use your hands in the normal fashion" and "Straight spines" and "Healthy appetites" make me sick *grumbles*
What was I talking about? Oh yeah, why are you kids playing video games on your body! Wheres the crippling pain and eye strain! gah, noobs

Old geezers. Let me guess, you had to walk twelve light years out of a gravity well to get to school each morning. Spinal mounts are for real men.* Only true gamers are willing to give up use of everything below their waist!

* We all know women don't play video games. Sure, that IGP address is from the planet of the Amazons Space Women. Its really just a creepy three-bellied Gapork** from Nambo**

**Geeze, its hard to come up with an imaginary name that can't be found with google. I give up.

Aw, now I feel bad for threadjacking. Well, from a marketing standpoint version numbers can be relevant. One distribution of linux was just a developed as the next, but their version number was say, 3.5.112 compared to competitors 7.1. So, they released a version upgrade where they just upgraded the number.

Sure, it may disregard the past (I haven't been aware of Stardock long enough to have a solid perspective, since I came around about the time of MOO3), but given their recent rise in popularity, I think it was a better choice to go with Galactic Civilizations 2 than have a retail browser think "If I hadn't heard of 1,2, or 3, then four musn't be any good."

I suppose that makes some sense. I can think of examples for both positions (on my side , Grand Theft Auto 3, even though the first two were far removed in gameplay and popularity. I credit them for saying, "sure this may be the first GTA that you've ever heard of, but we aren't going to pretend our previous games didn't exist.") I admit it's probably a minor point, just wondering if Wardell or anyone had offered any reason.

As far as I'm aware, no. Not in this databank's game history section. You can probably find a listing of developer interviews here or at apolyton.net. If all else fails, try to get into one of Apolyton's audio interviews. The one I'm linking to wraps up today, but they'll probably have one again sometime, though if you hurry you might make it.
