Requested NEW pieces or functionality for the Ship Designer

Hail Mighty Stardock employees and my fellow Galactic Citizens.

I hope I don't step on any toes here but I'd like to make some suggestions for the ship designer portion of the game (which is awesome already but I'd like to see a few things added or tweaked) and just wanted to suggest them to the devs:

1. I'd like the ability to move the hardpoints on the hull and pieces if possible (if there's a way to do this and I'm stupidly missing it, please let me know guys, thank you!).

2. I'd like to see some window pieces that can be overlayed on top of existing pieces.

3. Love to see separate gun, missile, and beam mounts that can be attached to bigger pieces.

4. Love to see some damage effects or insignias that can be placed on pieces, that would be superb!

5. Would it be possible to have a group of 'special effects' pieces to work with? For example, a glow effect that can be snapped onto an engine piece or crackling electricity that can be placed around a weapon part.

6. Greater variety of colored lights - not just round but other shapes and more colors please!

7. I know there are some pieces out there that represent engines attached to wings, but would it be possible to have some shorter, stubbier and rounder engine pieces.

8. It'd be really neat if there were some small parts that were actually various tiny ships...that way you could create a battleship / carrier type of vessel with many smaller fighter ships or shuttles attached to it. I'm able to do this in the designer right now manually but it's not terribly quick to do!

Those are my thoughts right now. Thanks StarDock for listening...again, nothing against the designer at all, it's wonderful already but since you guys love to update and tweak your game, please consider these requests!

Some of those sound like a good improvement (once again i state that the actual creation process rocks already!!)

2. Windows

3. Race logo on the ships

Love the idea of those two!!

I always thought it would be really cool to have animated parts.

Flashing yellow lights on my constructors
or spinning radar/gun turrets.

May not be at all possible though.

More jewlery....

More wings, and more "organic" looking ship componenets... there are a few, but we need more...

I thought new "jewelry" and race logos on ships (custom logos too?) were going to be incorporated into a patch soon. I remember reading about that in one of the Dev journals. I don't see it on the upcoming patch notes though. Of course, there is already so many improvements and tweaks in the patch I can't complain.

You do get a number of "extra" parts with the collectors edition. I didn't buy the collectors edition because it had unique parts, but because it was the first time I saw it for sale. Would not have mattered if it was CE or not. That being said, I could also understand CE buyers not wanting those CE parts included in a patch. So if they add new parts, I hope they are truly NEW parts.

I designed a ship to appear as a carrier (invasion transport) using a variety of CE and regular parts. What a pita to put that together. lol

I really don't care if they put the CE stuff into a patch, theres some intereasting stuff in there but its not that special that I would prevent others from using it. But I would prefer they add new stuff, preferably animated or more hulls.

Correct me if I'm wrong but can't you create pieces of jewellery in 3ds max and export it as a ship part to be imported to GC2? If so it should be pretty easy to create the lights, the lightning/engine glow or the insignia as they are relatively simple shapes. I grant it would be easier if they were already done by Stardock but those boys are quite busy and while I'm sure they will get to it eventually that might be an idea for the meantime...

What I'd like to see is a "hull stub." I don't think any such thing exists, but it'd be cool if you could just get some simple polyhedra with anchor points on them that act as various size ship hulls instead of being forced to use the existing hull models. That way, you could probably create a highly customized ship without as much effort!

You already can do that - there is a mod avaliable on the Metaverse that includes 'blank' hulls.

Kryo's hull mod--I think you start off with a hardpoint and go from there. Also allows you to use other race's base hulls as parts.

Thanks for the discussion guys...keep it coming, let's hope that Stardock are reading this...

I'd prefer not to have to use a mod to make the kind of ships that I'd like to...(though thanks to Kryo for making such a cool mod!). Half the fun for me is knowing that I can use it in a normal game and that other people can make a ship too just like I did...
