ObjectBar 1.99g[b].003 good, bad, and wishlist

The Good
-------------
Autohid bars are snappy in poping up, though they can sometimes get stuck behind other apps (like visual studio).
Loading large folders in a popup bar seems to have been sped up.
In general object bar seems to have shaken it's speed problems (for today at least).
No longer crashes when double clicking on the MyDocuments link on a bar
You fixed the send to problem on the system menu, woot!
The special clock is a nice plugin, but it doesn't size correctly to the bar if you have a thin bar at top.
RSS Feed is very nice.
Thank you for letting me set the width of my sidebar again

The Bad
-----------
Adding a folder link to a network path that doesn't exist, or partially exists causes object bar to hang. If you launch object bar and a network path that usually exists is down (machine rebooting or something), object bar will hang on launch.

Changing the skin of a bar shrinks it down (i.e. changing the skin on my side bar on Developer), this looks REALLY bad and is annoying.

Cannot drag items into the theme editor to create folder or shortcut links
When dragging items onto the object bar itself, it does not allow you to navigate into subbars to put stuff there instead. You can only drag to a 'main' bar.

We STILL have the problem where if I select a folder in a subbar, it keeps the subbar showing after the folder launches. (https://forums.stardock.com/?ForumID=190&AID=88886)

Windows taskbar will reappear even though object bar sets it to hidden (I believe yahoo messenger is the culprit somehow), object bar should try to monitor this.

Theme Editor interface is still terrible, no changes have been made to this despite the abundance of complaints made over its history. The two paned thing just doesn't work, the fact that drag & drop doesn't work with it either is terrible. Put a tree on the left side so you can navigate through your bar heirarchy and go from there with your GUI design.

When you add a new element, it always puts it on the bottom, no matter where you've clicked on the right hand pane.

If you configure a popup bar, there is no place to set it's icon. You have to go to the advanced theme editor to do this.

For gods sake, replace the red exclaimation point for the Command item with something else.

Wishlist
----------------
Undock is not an option for a windows/system command, this is useful for laptops...

Need way to drag a bar shortcut onto the desktop/folder without removing it from the bar (CTRL + Click?).

Need way when changing a skin on a bar, to propigate that skin change to all sub-bars.

Lets change the persistence format to XML from this INI stuff. Publish some schemas / apis and let us go to town . For power users like me who would love to write little utils to quickly setup sub-bars for development projects (choose a directory, it finds the solution file, the build directory, etc), this would rock.

Have the RSS plugin put something in object bar's system tray when the feed updates.

I agree with Scott's comments. My thoughts exactly on the OB stuff for some time. I really like OB but it is still a bit quirky at times and some of the display issues (like Windows Tasbar showing up) can be quite annoying.

Overall I still love it.

I've forgotten where to find the advanced theme editor. Would you remind me where to look? It seems to me that it should be easier to locate.

Thanks

I'm on the opposite boat with the Autohide. It doesn't work well for me. It's probably due to me having a multi-monitor setup. Can anyone else confirm whether this also happens on your end? Another issue possibly related is where it hides. I cannot get it to autohide on the second monitor and the hide function seem to go behind my Taskbar and at the absolute top edge. Trying to move it anywhere else seem to only make it go weird on me.

I guess the good news is that we're getting updates to this. But there are some quirks.

1) Popup bars should have an option to come up when your mouse hovers over, instead of clicking to force it open.

2) I'm with Scott with the drag-n-drop dealie. It'd be really nice to be able to make quick Shortcuts to folders and programs just from that. But doing it manually isn't much of a bother to me.

3) I agree that a change in configuration is needed. XML ought to be the way to go nowadays and will open up the potential of being able to create a web-based front-end to bar creations.

4) Some items still present a button or highlight style when there's little to no function to go with. The clock and HD meters both seem to exhibit this behavior. It may be consistant with the rest of the items. But it's inconsistant since clicking on the HD meter has no function.

Is per-pixel alpha planned for this? I was using Aura at the time and found that the skin selection to be rather... strange. I cannot find the right theme that can suit my taste and preference but for the moment the Menu skin from Aura seem to be the only thing that bests fit. It makes me want to mash up my own skin and I'm not the one who has the artistic talent for that.

So far I'm liking the progression. However, the 'Look and feel(tm)' of the program gives me the impression that this app is far from being finished. I'm anxious for more updates on this. It'll at least give me something that's not the ol' Start Menu/Panel/Taskbar.

In addition to all that...

when menus/bars stay open after selecting an item, it's not possible to shut them by right-clicking and selecting close bar.

The cursor sometimes sticks as a t-bar instead of an arrow...

I'm disappointed that this latest OB build no longer has the option of hiding desktop icons. For a long time I have used OB as an organized replacement for desktop icons. It still works that way, but now my desktop wallpaper isn't nearly as pretty.

I thought there had been another OD component that had some similar function. Does anyone know where that is/was?
