Stardock=No support

E-mailed Stardock because I could not run the game after installing the beta.it wanted to connect to the internet to "register" my game.Bought the store version of it and the gaming computer is not connected to the internet so had to do a reinstall. The install program said you needed the cd key and said nothing about having to be connected to the internet. Stardock did not bother to respond.Where is all this great support I keep hearing about?

Um, a beta is for testing purposes. If you want a more stable game use the 1.0X patch. Also the weekend just ended, give them a few days. I heard back from my email within 3 days, but I would at least give them until Friday. Also they have an IRC channel and you are most likely to get a fast response from there or here on the forums. Good luck bud.

What email address did you use? To be fair, you dont even need the CD key to install the game. Thats the reason that its trying to connect to the internet... it needs to check the key to make sure its valid. Just dont enter a CD key during the installation, and you should be fine.

The installer doesn't require a CD key.

Betas are unsupported.

Thanks for posting that, I never bothered to find the info.

EDIT: Just thought I'd point this out... You got a reply from Frogboy in 48 minutes. In my book that is pretty damn good. Since you are having trouble installing, you need to do a clean install, and don't bother with a beta until after you have the game up and running.

Incorrect. The install program PROMPTS you for the cd key and stores it in the game's memory if you input one. It doesn't REQUIRE the key in order to install.

1. The beta specifies it requires activation with your CD key to work, UNLIKE the non beta game... You thought you could do that without an internet connection?
2. You have no access to the internet whatsoever? how did you even get the beta? had a friend download it and burn it on a CD?

I downloaded the beat from SDC and it didn't ask me for any CD key. Please give more details so we can help you.

Another guy just gave me a link to how to solve this. What a joke! After spending 40 bucks on this game I'm already feeling like a crook having to go through this song and dance to get a update. It even makes Starforce seem like a minor annoyance compared to this. But hey, you got my money Stardock thats all that matters right?

Be honest please : SD is not commited to even give betas away, you can easily get the latest "official" patch on the website.
But obviously if you're requesting an easy way to get patches without using the Net you're in trouble - with all games !

Well if you are that unhappy, you could probably get a refund. Seriously though, I understand you are frustrated with your experience, but alot of us are having few to no problems and are trying to help you. As for feeling like a crook, I think the title of your thread isn't getting you much sympathy. Anyways, keep us updated if that link I gave you helps.

If the beta requires the internet to activate, and you don't have a connection, simply uninstall the game, then reinstall from the CD. You don't even have to enter your serial number or need a connection to the 'net to play the CD version.

You're not alone but you could try to be a bit more polite ? No offence but https://www.galciv2.com/Journals.aspx?AID=110190 post 12 and 13. Same problem but at the guy seems to be ok with the "sollution". So it may not be perfect at least you should give support a chance to help you out.

In my own experience SD has a good support that even fixed a problem I had before I mailed them.

If you ask politely, please no need to be sarcastic, no one put a knife on your throat and told you to buy the game, again it is a beta and players were encouraged to NOT download it if you were not a techie, so please understand that you choose to or not to download the beta. Again if you ask be nice, no need for sarcasm and unwanted comments. The peopl at Stardock are always willing to help a fellow plauyer.

Thanks for the help but I still dont understand why I can download the patch after giving my cd key downloading and then installing to my other computer with no problems and then having to be connected to the internet for the beta? I've done this with over a 100 games in my collection with no problem.Only once did I go through something like this but that was a full game that was purchased online.

This is what is says where you click to download the beta.

"Feeling frisky? You can try our latest BETA version."

also beta implies, "A version of an application that is made available prior to the official release for the purposes of testing."

Stardock was very clear that it would be risky to install the beta, that it would be unsupported but they would appreciate constructive feed back and bug reports in the forums.

SD believes (And IMHO I think they got that right) the "best" copy protection is to "reward" legit buyers by giving them free updates or extra/new content. That's one reason 1.1 is there in the first place.

Now they need a way to "ensure" only legit buyers get acces to the extra content and updates. The best way is an activation scheme.

So, everybody can play GC2. But only legit buyers can get the updates. Some the easy way because they have their gaming PC hooked up to the net, some with some extra hassle.

Umm how many seconds did you wait before you jumped to your erroroneous conclusions?

a) Stardock will (and has) responded
b) It's not going to be instantaneous. They will get in touch with you.
c) I know you're upset but lets chill on the accusations. Stardock has a top notch crew and the customer support folks should get an award of recognitiion.
d) Along the lines of C - if there was a customer service competition I'd believe the folks at Stardock would win it hands down.
e) I can sympathize with you a bit, You bought the game and just want to play it. Now that you probably are, all is well.

Just goes to show that no matter how good your product or customer service is, somebody will always be there to b**** about it. Oh, and there's never any shortage of hyperbole, with claims like "It even makes Starforce seem like a minor annoyance compared to this." Has Stardock secretly installed drivers that damaged your hardware? Has Stardock software copied itself onto all network drives with read/write access? Do you need to reformat your hard drive to get rid of Stardock software? No? Then shut up with the favorable StarForce comparisons.

You misunderstood the installation instructions and downloaded a beta when you didn't know what you were doing. Then you get online and attack a company with excellent customer support because they didn't support their beta, claiming that they don't care about satisfying their customers since they already got your money. And saying that StarForce is a minor annoyance compared to this? If your proctologist ever finds your head, let us know.

It's hard to believe I read this post right. My personal experience has been completely different. I've posted in the forums and sent bug reports and save game files to gc2bugs@stardock.com, and I have had responses when warranted, including direct e-mail contact with the lead developer of GC2. I've found Stardock support to be quite good. Try to get this level of support from a big developer - it just doesn't happen.

Keep up the good work, Stardock!

Your full of it Empyrean.Starforce never damaged my computer in any way other than being a pain in the butt.I don't like it but it's far less draconion than this fouled up system. I'm being shafted for running the game on a non-internet computer. .And you should read the download instrutions for the beta before shooting off your big mouth because it doesn't say anything about having to be connected to the internet. Because it's ok for YOU in your little Stardock fanboy world doesn't it's ok with everyone else.Grow up!

Perharps there isn't any activation warning when download the beta. BUT there was an activation warning when installing the beta. You could have aborted the installation of the beta when you saw this popup.

I am sorry if that sounds harsh, but I don't find other way to tell that.
