possible ship attack idea?

will it work?

Ok, i was wodering, could you maybe in the batle cam possibly select a ship (your side, of course) and use the arrow keys or the mouse to specifically attack a ship/ dodge a ship?
and you(depending on hull upgrades) could preform manuevers.

e.g, a ship the has combat experience (ONLY ships with combat exp- any ship that isnt new really-must see a battle and live) when it has enough combat exp, it could possibly preform manuevers. If you've heard of the Halo books, then you know of the "keyes loop" were you accelerate towards the ship, overpressurize a launch bay, and, at the last sec, depresserize the bay so you go shooting to the side, therfore a pointblank range attack. (hard to explain)

basiclly, you can manuever ships, if you want, and maybe lets them preform "moves".

its a bit dumb, but you never know.

No, there is no tactical combat, and I doubt there will be. There is no point to it, as all ships attack the same way (dice roll), and it wou;d be a pain for the AI

good point. i guess im trying to say that its a optinal feature that you could use or not use, and the AI could simply do it the standered way. its mainly so you can fly your pretty ships everywere! yay! and blow up the other pretty ships of your choice! yay!

yeah an option, but things are easier to say then do. the devs would have to do a lot of work to change the combat system, its a lot of work, and the game was designed the way it was designed. the devs could have started from day one with tactical combat, but they decided they wanted to do it this way.

i guess that makes sense. im kinda used to real-time games, so i was wondering if you could incorperate that. i guess not. you can dream, right?
i guess watching them blow up is better than choosing which one.

Ship maneuvering/tactical combat is not likely to be added for several reasons:
1. it would be far too easy for it to become a way to exploit the game to win - i.e. there would likely be tactics a human could use that the AI couldn't, thus making it possible to win by 'cheating'. This has been the case in almost every TBS game with tactical combat - the player had to use tactical combat in order to have at least an even chance of winning (the computer would mess up the combat otherwise), and if the player used tactical combat, the computer generally didn't have an even chance.
2. This game is based on fairness - the AI doesn't cheat and doesn't treat the human any different from another AI, and the AI also has access to the same capabilities and information (no more, no less) as the human player. For tactical combat to be fair, the AI has to be capable of using it as well, and it would be hard to program this well.
