Later Anomalies

Surely they can pop up out of nowhere

I think that anomalies are a little undervalued in the way in which they occur. The fact that they only exist at the beginning of the game, and once found they NEVER come back again seems to me to be a bit counter productive to some of the techs that can be researched to improve it.

By the time people get around to researching the tech which produces a survey module, or the trade good that grants ALL ships survey ability, all anomalies would have been long gone, and there is no longer a need to equip any ship with a survey module.

It would be nice if they "randomly" popped up now and then.... after all... they *are* anomalies

They USED to pop up randomly. However, it seems like the 1.0X update killed it. I'm not sure if this was a bug fixed or a bug that popped up while fixing bugs though. I definitely agree that anomalies SHOULD pop up randomly, since they give an extra dimention of randomness to the game that makes things interesting. Although I must admit, the power of the anomalies meant that I usually find myself shooting all the other player's flagship as soon as opportunity allows... so I can see why it might be been 'fixed', simply because the AI doesn't do the same and lose out on a major part of the game. Let's hope brad and some AI 'survey' routines and turn the randomness back on. *prays*

yup indeed, It's rather useless to actually research the survey thingy cause when you have researched they are all gone already. Except when you play with 2 on a galactic map but who does that?

Totally agree - we need random anomalies throughout the game to add to interest and perhaps cause tension. If one pops up in someone;s area of influence, it should affect relations if you go and pinch it.

playing the scenarios, the AI doesnt start with a survey ship and never builds one
so ALL anomalies are for the player (epic scenario: i built 3 additional survey ships each with >10 movement speed and all kept surveying until the end! no need to say all those 1% added up to a HUGE advantage and the AI had no chance to compete)
if anomalies start to pop up randomly, the AI should be improved to go for them

There is a UP resolution to only allow anomaly exploration in your own sphere of influence. Of course, given that anomalies are long gone by the time the UP meets up, this is currently of no importance whatsoever!

In addition if you every load a game, all unexplored anomlies seem to disappear.

There is a united planets vote which talks about only being able to search anomalies if they are within your borders or outside of anyones control... I got this event so late in the game there really wasn't any point in having the vote at all.

This is another example of events that really are only specific to a particular portion of very specific types of games (ie large maps)

I'm definetly for new anomalies popping up during the game. Especially when you're trying to avoid war, there's no turnaround when you miss out in the early game. I would even go so far and have no or very few anomalies exist at the start of the game, so the new ones appearing are the major part of it. The de luxe version would be if both rates (initial / appear) were adjustable, of course

There should be a notice in the news that a new anomaly has formed, by the way. The AI won't miss it, but a player will usually not notice a new spot on the map, so he's at a disadvantage.

I would like to have new anomalies appearing. I would also like an option to start game without flagship. That would make certain techs more important.
