Advice before I buy...

I would like to use WindowBlinds to make some minor changes to my current theme to increase usability. I am not interested in advanced functions, per-application settings, etc. What I would like to do is make modifications, get the theme registered with Windows, and then be able to use the theme without having WindowBlinds running.

Is this possible, or does WindowBlinds have to be kept in the system tray in order for theme changes to remain in effect?

Thank you for any advice you have to offer.

WB doesn't work that way. A WB style can't be applied or used unless WB is running. However WB does not use system resources except when applying a theme...

If it helps, I haven't noticed any problems with WindowBlinds slowing down my system. I was reluctant to use it at first, but I'm very happy I purchased it.

Actually you can turn off the WB system tray icon. Go to User Overrides and in Advanced Settings you can uncheck 'Show icon in system tray.'

There are no running processes with WindowBlinds 5, and no performance loss if you meet system requirements. Some people have said to have gotten performance gains, since WB uses the graphics card.

It's definately worth the buy.

Thanks to everyone for their advice.

I downloaded "free" versions of WindowBlinds and SkinStudio. Tried to modify the buttons at the top right of the window (minimize, close, etc.) and move them slightly, which rendered them useless in actual windows. I tried to modify the inactive toolbar color and quickly wound up with everything in all windows looking purple. So, I gave up, uninstalled everything, and decided to be happy with the way things are.

At any rate, thanks for the advice!
