Anyone saw pirates?

Sometimes civilization report say that chosen civ is at wor with Pirates - anyone ever saw one?

I had a fleet of pirates sit on one of my trade routes last game and start offing freighters. Decent ships, too.

I've run into them before, but not too often.

Yeah, I have seen several games where I got a popup saying that there were pirates in the galaxy, but I have only been attacked by them once. In the game I am playing now, the Terrans are at war with the pirates, but I haven't seen any yet.

Oh yes, I've seen them. WAY into a long game when I had brought peace & prosperity to the galaxy they appeared.
My alliance's powerful fleets were all the way across the far rim of the galaxy in operations against the Drengin and a number of pirates started destroying freighters on trade routes within my core industrial sectors. Within a few weeks some trade routes began to close and it seriously brought my income down so that I could not maintain my ship production. I had to withdraw a fair portion of my fleet from Drengin space to fight them and as a result of that, I lost 2 major battles and it set back my offensives against the Drengin for several months.

I only saw them when I had a prison built near one of my worlds and there was a prison break. Decent ships and they did give me a run for my money.

Wish there was a way somehow to turn up the % of random events like pirates hapenning.

I have also only seen them when there was a prison break in one of my planets. I've heard of pirate activity and whatnot in the game though.

Yep, there are 2 random events that spawn pirates. One is related to galaxy development, the other... is an oops you'll learn of yourself.

About 8 appeared when there was just me and 2 other guys on the map...they killed my freighters, then as soon as that happened, the other two (supposedly allies) declared war on me (one due to a random event, the other cause it was also an ally with the AI) and they pretty much took 6 of my planets before i could churn out some nice big ships to kill them all that was a fun game.
