appears validated but serial not matched

"The product appears to be validated but the serial number or the machine SID don't match."

I recently had my powersupply go bad and burn out part of my mainboard. After installing new equipment, I was locked out of Windows XP (SP2) and had to delete the Windows directory and re-install (stupid admin password).

All my files on all partitions were preserved, but couldn't be run due to not having been entered into the Windows registry. So I reinstalled everything over their pre-existing paths -- including Stardock and GalCiv2. (Side note: it would be nice if the installer checked to see if it needed to actually download a file or not before doing so).

When I attempt to launch GalCiv2, I get that error message quoted above. I've entered all my serial numbers but it's still no-go.

Is it because you guys encode hardware into my serial number, and since I replaced the mainboard and video card (from geforce 6800 to geforce 7800+SLI) it doesn't match this "machine SID", whatever that is, anymore?

No, it's because you reinstalled Windows.

In your GalCiv 2 directory delete your sig.bin file. Then in Stardock Central, select GalCiv II, right click on it, and choose the activation w/logging option. That should sort you out.

Excellent.

And everything's right where I left it.

Thanks Yarlen.
