I don't get new ships afte I research new techs

Even after I've researched all the techs needed for a new ship I still get a message that I need a tech I already have before I can build the ship. The other civilizations have no trouble building these ships and I eventually get creamed. Am I doing something wrong or is this a bug?

Why are you bothering with the stock ships? Create your own ship designs using your current level of tech and specialized to your current needs.

Click on "core" in the shipyard.

or click on ALL in shipyard.. you might still be missing some tech you havent thought about, like miniturazation (to make it all fit on one ship) or what have you... there is really no point in using the core ships... obsolete them all and design your own ships...

for example, isntead of the standard colony ship that can carry 1000bil people and moves at 1pc/wk i make a colony ship that moves at 3pc/wk and can carry 500bil people and has greater range using INITIAL tech. Every time you develop a new version of engine or weapon or whatever you can usually imrpove your ships, but only rarely do you get a new CORE ship design... Personally I'd like it if the core ships were only skeletons (only the extras, no actual tech equipment) so that we could outfit them with whatever items we wanted...
