Chug Chug Chug....
System Resource drain while playing Huge Galaxy Sandbox
from
GalCiv2 Forums
Ok first off, here are my machine's stats:
Dell XPS Gen 2
Nvidia FX5200 Video
Soundblaster Audigy 2 Soundcard
1GB DDR RAM
P4 3GHz CPU
Now, while playing a sandbox game, huge galaxy, common everything else and 5 major races, I get lag. Lag like an MMO player using 1980's dialup trying to play DDO online. The biggest occurance are after playing for more than 30 minutes or when getting in and out of the ship buildier. The ship builder seems to be the biggest drag on resouces this game has.
I am tempted to think the old FX5200 card is peaking out on me, but I am running on 1024x768, with not Anti-Aliasing.
I have tried with and without software/hardware background apps working. So am in not convinced that my Macafee, or my other "tray" icons programs are taking that big of a drain on the system.
The lag actually causes problems like having to click on something multiple times for the click to actually register.
I do have a wireless mouse/keyboard but I have also updated the batteries in there just in case.
Thanks in advance for any advice or tips! Keep up the good work.
BTW: everyone who can get a group around a table should play Twilight Imperium 3rd Edition and see what multiplayer GALCIV2 is really like
