AI Ship Design Cheats

Playing a game on painful difficulty, i was in a war with the Yor after just recently shifting everything into research, catching up and slightly surpassing them. The war isn't going well, but i'm at least able to fend off their early fighter fleets - then these monstrous frigates appear that have *9*laser V's, 3 superior deflectors and it looks like impulse 3 drives (I had espionage high enough to be able to read off its stats). Remember - i'm actually superior to them in tech, with the Yor miniturization bonus being offset by my progress down that tech tree (they're only 10% higher in that stat). The absolute best i can create is a frigate with impulse 3 and 5 laser V's. Their frigates are outright twice as powerful as mine can ever be. How the hell? I thought the AI didn't cheat?

Maybe a system in your game screwed up and caused the AI to use cheats even if your not,I know this from experience because I had that problem too.My enemies the Drengins had massive ships in the begining of the game but their attack was thwarted by my skills.

The AI gets additional bonuses once you go beyond Intelligent. Brad has posted this several times. If the miniaturization ability is multiplied by one of these bonuses that is how they got more things on their ship. Nothing is broken it's just how it works out. Also look around for a military resource. If they've got it maxed out then you get something on the order of a 44% bonus to weapon damage and defense. Also same thing applies to this that applies to miniaturization. If there is an under the hood bonus being added to their weapon or defense stat that would explain it as well.

Maby they are using a bigger hull or that 10% bonus is bigger than you thought and at like 40% or something
