Planetary blockade issue

I've noticed a little peculiarity with the AI I thought I'd share. To give context, I was playing the first mission of the campaign on painful difficulty.

What happened was this, I managed to set up some nominal blockades of the two Drengin planets with two attack one defense nil fighters. Then I held them in the blockade for long enough to research and produce about four transports and by this point it was all over. Now the reason I've put this in the bug section is the AI response. All it did for the entire duration of the blockade was produce small hulled scouts with no weapons, which I duly destroyed. Also my Altarian allies, bless 'em, focussed their efforts on building up an influence starbase next to my homeworld...

My suggestion for a possible AI reaction when faced with this situtation is to check the immediate vicinity of a planet for threats and only build something that could survive long enough to be of use. If it can't then perhaps focus that planet on research and try design something that can. Having said that, I've no idea how difficult this is to implement, so if anyone has a better idea that would be cool.

I don't want to give the impression I think the AI rubbish, I *really* don't. My previous game was on tough and I had a good, fun fight.

edit: I guess this isn't really a "bug", maybe "AI oddity" would be a better way of putting it.

Cheers for reading this far .
