Returning to partially researched tech

Do you get credit for past work?

Say I've partially researched technology X and realize, "Oh, crap! I need to get technology Y right away!" So I switch my research to technology Y. Then I go back to re-research technology X. Do I get credit for all the time my scientists already spent on the project many moons back? In other words, is the number of weeks required to complete technology X reduced by the number of weeks I already spent on it earlier?

Yeah, when you examine an unfinished tech, it has a progress bar that shows how much time/bc have been invested already. Same with ships being built too, sometimes.
