Generous or stupid?

I'm in a situation where I want to help one of the AI players by making generous tech exchanges ... effectively give them 3x the value I'm getting in return. My question is, will the AI think I'm being generous and this will improve our relationship?

What about the situation where I give the same techs, but ask for nothing in return? I'm assuming this gift improves our relationship. Is the improvement proportional to the size of the gift?

If you're not asking for anything in return, then you're offering a tribute. This affects your relationship with them, but the change in your standing is entirely dependant on the value placed on the tech (if you're not giving a tribute of cash).

A good way to figure out how much the AI values a particular tech is to attempt to sell it to them for money. Adjust the slider for the cash as high as it can go before it turns red. If the cash value that they remain 'green' on is near or above 1000bc, you can get a significant relationship change (normally one step). Simply cancel the cash slider and give them the tech.

While lower-value techs still improve your relationship, it takes more of them to improve your standing with any particular race.

I'm not familiar with the math behind all of this, so I may be wrong, but that's what it seems like in my experiences.

I support DuneTiger's theory. Everything has a cash value (hence the galactic showcase galactic achievement which makes your things seem more valuable) and the AI usually base themselves on the cash value, modified by their relation and your diplomatic ability with them.

But isn't the amount they'll agree to influenced by the size of their current bank account as well? This would vary the maximum amount they would agree to greatly, and may make that gauge deceiving.

The inter-raiclial friction is built in at a higher lvl than bribes are, so effect just filters down.
