Um is there any way to DESTROY colonies?

Um is there any way to DESTROY colonies?

As in planetary bombard and blow up an enemy colony?

I'm tired of having to conquer every colony. Takes forever.

One ship having the power to bomb a planet would not be a good addition to this game. Could it happen in reality? Sure. But is it impossible to balance in a game like this? Yes. To be just slightly feasible, it would have to be extremely expensive, and take a lot of time and power. If you feel like invading every planet is too much work (weren't you playing this game for fun in the first place?) then try smaller maps, or going for other victories. I play on medium mostly, and my games are not drug out by invasions.

I think 1.3 has the ability to utterly ruin a colony (i.e turn it to class 0).

actually i believe that with a space bombardment someone would survive no matter how many bombs you drop

there is one truth in any army and that is you have to have infantry

Wrong. And I'm evidently more lucky than you. I have had taken planets without a single loss. The key is to have about +80 soldering and outnumber then massively. And if you bothered playing the campaign, you would see the Dread Lords invade a planet with 20 troops and not lose any at a fairly consistent rate, especially pre-soldiering.

I've never managed to invade without losing somebody. And that's with researching all soldiering techs way before everyone else, having Tir Quan and frequently outnumbering 3 to 1 or more. So yeah, you are more lucky!

On the other hand, the dreadlords frequently failed to take my planets, so it works both ways.

Agreed. I was thinking more like 20 Large, though of course that's to raze the land, and boil the oceans, and strip the atmosphere. One ship could barely pester, and oribtal defenses should be able to take it out.

Not if you made the planet completely uninhabitable, which seems to be what a number of us are requesting.

Planetary Bombardment

You can set a group of ship in orbit of a planet, ordering them to bombard it.

Every turn, you cause 0-(* of attacking point) % of population casualties, and has 0-(* of attacking point) of chance destroying 1 planet tile, turning it into "devastated area". Devastated area can be restored via the terraforming tech branch.

To bombard a planet is a dangerous thing, politicly and military. You fleet opens itself to attack, and they lose the iniative for the battle (attackers gets first shot free).

Dangerous politicly, because you loose influence all over the galaxy, and you get some (-) in diplomatic screens on neutral and good races. (Evil races don't care)

For the unimaginative people here who have no chance to play fairly and troll on the forums about how the AI cheats, they will cheese, and then in ever asked say "oh yeah, so easy, crap game". We already have enough reasons for idiots to whine.

I prefer to win a game on my own merit, not cheat. Blowing up a planet because you aren't good enough to take it is cheating in my eyes

I reiterate my statement. Blowing up a planet, or large numbers of planets, because you haven't got the ability to take them normally is cheating in my eyes. This is not about scorched earth. This is about the fact that people will rush the bombardment, and then just blow up everything.

Well I also reiterate my statement. Yeah planetary destuction is cheating if you have a ship that's fast and cheap and the like, but destroying a planet would take incredible amounts of resources and money, and that kind of destruction would be right up with making yourself a god, so if that's cheating tell me how it would be cheating instead of just whining about it.

Not if you made the planet completely uninhabitable, which seems to be what a number of us are requesting.

Hehe, oh someone would survive, but they would be mutants like from the "The Hills Have Eyes", just waiting for the dumb bastard who wants to see the desert.
