ive played 3 campaign missions now and i still cant research trade, it would be nice if i could trade with my other 3 allies...

The campaign runs under certain conditions -- no trade techs is one. I haven't played through the entire thing, so I don't know if it's like that through the whole campaign, but I assume it is.
