Dharma's Quote Of The Day

In light of all the debates/arguments that have been going on about homosexuality, 'civil unions', war, gods (or lack thereof), I just have this to say....

'Men never do evil so completely or so cheerfully as when they do it from religious conviction'

B. Pascal.

There, I said it.

I could not agree more, Dharmagrl. History shows that the worst mass murders accured between the fifth century and the seventeenth century in europe. And much of it was done by Catholics.

misunderstanding of religion, and misuse of God's name doesn't mean that God is bad. "Religion" is a bad word for lots of people because of the things that have been carried out in God's name. These evils are the works of man... not of God. i only make this point because it's easy to lose sight of this fact.

I know that, MJ......no-one said that god was bad, or that he was asking man to do anything - as you said, these are man's interpretations of god's wishes and will and that's where the distinction lies.

Marvin, it's interesting that you should comment on this post - given your almost persecutatory views of homosexuality (amongst other things).

Pascal also wrote what's popularly known as 'Pascal's Wager'. anyone ever heard of that? I wonderwhat would happen if I posted that....
