Diplomacy weirdness

With the latest patch GC2 is looking sweet but I have one concern.

When I use diplomacy to get a friendly race to attack another I usually cannot. This is because the Attack box usually don´t have all the civilizations in it. I was having tought time in one game and thought to get another civ to attack Drengi (suprise suprise ) but could not since there was no attack option for Drengi! All the other civs were there but not the one I needed

Is there some untold diplomacy quirk in here like a weak civ won´t attack stronger one no matter or what?

Maybe if those civs have close relations they won't attack each other? I had this happen to me, and when I checked I found they were "close". Obviously it would not work if they were allied either.

Another guess here, but maybe the Race you're trying to convince to attack the Drengi doesn't have any contact with them yet?

Yes I was thinking about the close thing too, but nobody was close to Drengi and there was no alliances between any of the civilizations. This is like the whole "how to get alliances" stuff all over again. Not to sound too disapointed but there should have been documentation about these things

It was in the middle of the game and everybody had met everybody, so that can´t be the issue.

Maybe, bear with me here, you are pulling down the wrong diplomacy box. I did that once, pulled down their diplomacy box which only had a few races, then i pulled down mine and it had all the races. I picked the one I wanted them to attack and they accepted. And did.

They either don't have the option because:

1. no contact
2. close relations or alliance or they just made peace. I believe a few turns must past before going to war again? not sure. Their political party/government won't let them go to war that turn. It happens to the player so it must happen to the AI.
3. can't get there. (not sure on this one)

I've had that, when I've had those filthy Drengins use the technology I gave them (Psionic Beams and Nano Rippers- ouch) against me faster than I expected. My army wasn''t big enough to cope, and I wanted to ask the Thalans, who were warm towards the Drengin, to help me. They weren't allied, I was the only one with Allies. They didn't have the Drengin as an option, and they weren't already at war with them, although they had had a few skirmishes. A few turns later, the Thalans sent me a message saying they were joining the war, but not before half my EXTREMELY expensive fleet was decimated.

Could it really be this?

If so it´s very odd logic to me. Iam not able to play in awhile so I cannot confirm this, could somebody else try if it really works like this?
