AI Suddenly Deconstructed Mining Starbases For No Reason

I was playing a game, latest patch, Normal AI. Tthe Altarians had, despite their low AI, managed to Constructor Rush me because I was too laid back with doing it myself . They took two resources that rightfully were mine. However, at one point, despite having fully upgraded starbases, they randomly decommissioned at least both of those. They recovered one, but I managed to take the other one before their next ship arrived.

I'm pretty sure the Altarians weren't strapped for cash, and if they were they should have decommissioned one of their nearly 200 fighter-sized ships first or one of their myriad of military starbases. They did, after all, have a military rating bigger than the next two behind them combined.

Has anyone else seen something like this? I don't have a Save Game, but if it happens often enough that someone else has seen it, it probably should be fixed.

I saw this happen near the end of a game. The Drengin (Bright AI) completely dismantled two mining starbases. They were at war at the time and needed cash. One was a Military resource and the other was a Morale resource.

ditching a military resouce base can't be a good idea during a war no matter what. But 1.1 is supposed to improve the AI's use of starbases, so here's hoping.

Well, I don't see how reducing empire wide morale bonus could help them with cash, since they would need to reduce taxes due to unhappiness increase, depending on how developped was the morale starbase.

Scrapping anything but economic starbases is a bad idea, economic starbases increases production, which increases cost, so scrapping those should give you cash now and cash later, but mining bases? perhaps something is broken with them afterall. Personally though, I have not seen it myself, I tend to blow them all up first... and stealing it, of course. ^_^;;;
