"Free" production??

First of all i like to say that i really love this game!! best game i played i a very long time - takes me back to the good old MOO2 days. Very well done.

So here is what i cant figure out:

The new beginners guide states that abilities is a bonus that gives free production; quote from the guide: "You can get bonus production through your abilities which you are not charged for"

However i tested this - chose the politcal party that gives you 20% production bonus to social and military production. The test showed that im charged for the ekstra 20% production bonus.

What am i missing here?? I dont see the advantage in these ekstra bonuses if the cost you ekstra since its very hard to have spending to 100% all time without running out of BC

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

What do you mean by charged for? If you mean are you paying to biuild stuff, then, yes, you are. An increase in production means you build it faster not cheaper.

I think it's an artifact from GalCiv 1, in which you could get "Free extra" production from starbases and such

I'm not sure, but I THINK at least some of the production from stations is still free- in a game where i only had about 6 planets, i put 3-4 fully upgraded economic starbases next to my biggest planet, and saw no noticable increase in the amount of $$ acctually spent. I didn't calculate it out and check before and after each upgrade, but considering the planet was making several hundred shields in both social and mil, I'm pretty sure i would have noticed the change.

I think it increases the potential maximum industrial output of all your planets (which is good in the beginning if you can sustain the economic hit) not the cost of the boost.

Yes it increases the potential maximum industrial output, but according to the strategic beginners guide this ekstra increasement should be free of charge (as i understand it). Let me quote it again:

"You can get bonus production through your abilities which you are not charged for"

But it seems like you are charged for it, at least according to my testing..............

Raeper III:
The beginners strategy guide states that production from stations are charged, quote:

"You can also build starbase factories which enhance your production rate but you are charged for that additional production."

So i think you were charged for this.............

They really should change this. In galciv 1 you got some free shields. Like i said before its not vey cool to just get an increase in the potential maximum industrial output, since it can be very hard to fund this.

Maybe its not intentional that it works the way it do now, maybe its a bug or something.........
