I am hearing for folks on other forums that they cannot create a new account for galciv.com, metaverse, and such.
Apparently errors vary. They are experiencing some frustration.

I was having some serious issues trying to register using GalCiv2.com - they included a wide variety of error messages, and when it "sent off an email for verification" (I tried this several times with various addresses at my domain), I never received those emails. And I'm not just talking about waiting a few minutes, I gave them a few *days*.

Then I tried what someone else suggested - try one of the affiliated sites, such as stardock.net - then go into the forums there and register a new account. If you've already tried with that email address, click "resend email". 40 seconds later and I was able to verify my account.
