Population limit

Have every planet their population limit ? I mean without dependence of food.
For example i have a colony on Mars with 19mt/w food, 100% Morale and with a population 2.70b
Population is constant and isn't growing. Why ?

Yes, planets have a solid limit of 100 billion, despite everything. Then planets have a limit based on PQ. Higher the PQ, the higher to overall pop. i raises rather quickly compared to the PQ.

I've run some quick tests during the little time I was able to play:
PQ 4 : pop cap is 2.695b
PQ 5 : pop cap is 4.483b
PQ 6 : pop cap is 7.000b
PQ 8 : pop cap is 14.700b
This is considering you have enough farms to sustain that many people.

Note that pop seems not to increase if moral is under 40% on the planet.

So, for the original poster, if Mars has PQ 4 then it's normal.

Edit:

Just to strengthen the point, since you get 5mt/w from the colony outpost, seems like there is no point in building a farm on PQ 4 / 5. PQ 6 is debatable (due to having only 5 buildable tiles). From PQ 7 (limit must be around 10.000b) I guess it can be done if you want to increase the income.

Anyway, this game really needs to provide more details on how things are calculated. After several hours I haven't grasped a tiny part of how bonuses, productions, and such things are, though most of my time is spent trying to and not actually playing.

I would point you to the threads that contain the exact formula, but they're probably buried like 100 pages deep... but as Fogia said, class 4 planets only get around 2.6billion people.

I *THINK* it was something like CAP = 20 * ((PQ-1)^3) <- limit in millions

Actually the formula cap floating around is CAP = 20 * (PQ+1)^3.

Which gives the following :
PQ 4 : pop cap is 2.500b
PQ 5 : pop cap is 4.320b
PQ 6 : pop cap is 6.860b
PQ 8 : pop cap is 14.580b
vs what I found from testing:
PQ 4 : pop cap is 2.695b
PQ 5 : pop cap is 4.483b
PQ 6 : pop cap is 7.000b
PQ 8 : pop cap is 14.700b

So I guess it could be used but to which extend can it be trusted?

Well, assuming that CAP = 20 * (PQ + X)^3 is correct, the value of X isn't constant, sadly.

For PQ 4, it's roughly 1.127
For PQ 5, it's roughly 1.075
For PQ 6, it's roughly 1.047

etc.

I wish I could go nab that formula. . . just cuz this is gonna drive me crazy. . . lol
