Kudos! Combat is much improved over gal civ 1.

I loved gal civ 1, but teh combat was always unsatisfying. Additionally, it always seemed a miltary strategy was an all or nothing thing early one. Usually I would simply hold tight till the end and tech up , then switch to military campaign once I had better ships.

Now however, simple ships are effective, combat plays out much better and is far more intruiging. I also like the fact that the customiziablity of the ships gives so much control over how your empire expands martially.

Kudos for making combat such a pleasure this time around.

Just as a devil's question...

Other than having three types of weapon and three types of defense, how is combat any different? The moderately useful fleet ability? The inconsistent closeups?

Bah! It is still I attack, my attack is better, I win. Just 9 different varieties of the same old ships

I had hoped for some sort of tactical battle

I agree that its an improvement, although it kinda sucks that the player has so little control over the camera angle.

Also, I wish they would make the weapons turreted or otherwise adjust the program so that, for example, laser beams do not shoot from the back of a laser cannon (as opposed to coming out of the barrel of the weapon, which is kinda what I'd expected).
