Furious at 2K

I decide to buy online after all, against my better judgment. But I am furious.

I am missing my box (and no amount of online stuff will replace that box)...and now I have tons of info to keep in safekeeping...I want it SIMPLE, now it is not.

Might have got 1 online sell more and 1 box less, but you also manage to pass from "Ally" to "Apprehensive", which IMO was not worth it. Word of Mouth and everything...

Now let's hope this faction goes back up as I play the game. Not to mention that if I somehow manage to lose that precious info and lose my rights to a game I buy, I will consider 2K responsible no matter how illogical this sound. Damn....must have enjoy the first game a lot to endure that!

Stardock keeps the information for you, I didn't even have to remember my name and password in order to download the game through it. If you ever have to reinstall it, I suppose all you'd need to remember are your name and password for Stardock and you could get GalCiv II again, I don't see a particular risk of you losing access to it vs buying the box copy.

So what's the benefit to online purchase? You saved some gas, and got the game a few hours or days earlier than you otherwise could've. Who knows, it might've been next week before you could find it in a shop near where you are. Personally with the way my week's been going I think I would've had a helluva time getting to the mall to pick it up, so though I miss the fold-out tech tree I'm glad I chose the electronic download option.

Well, when I buy a new computer, I may very well not remember that password. It is is some safekeeping somewhere.

As for the gas, I already went to the shop 3 times.

I am really angry at 2K, worst publishing ever. I want that box. I buy my games for ethical reasons and...for the box! You might think it doesn't mean much, but it does.

With the box, the serial numbers are somewhat easy to find...now...they are in some safekeeping, obviously safe enough for me to forget where they are!

And I will change computer...I change every 2 or 3 years...so I am unhappy. Mostly because I WANT the retail version...but now, I can lose my 4 days week end (which also have my B-day)...or I can buy online. So I pick the lesser evil, but that doesn't reduce my furiousness.

Worst publishing ever.

Uhhhh, huh? Just archive the game in Stardock Central and this will create a zip archive. Simply burn that to a CD or store it in some other safe location and viola, instant back *including all updates and patches installed so far*.

Oh, and nobody forced you to not get a CD. You could have easily had Stardock ship you the boxed game and you'd still be able to download it with your serial as soon as you got the serial number.

um...
not sure if you know this, but even if you buy just the download version of the game, stardock will ship you a boxed copy if you want. all you have to do is pay shipping and handling.

and I'm not sure why you're made at 2k... as far as I know, 2k games didn't have anything to do with GalCiv2... I thought Stardock published it themselves.

i'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong here.

I've ordered directly from Stardock the CD version and while waiting for it to arrive i downloaded the game. Now i have both the game installed and the CD box on it's way. I'm not sure why you didn't do the same yourself.

*shrug*

You all sound logical and all, but I have no clues what you mean by doing all those stuff.

And getting Stardock to ship the box would definitely be an option I want, I just have no idea how to do it.

Just do this, just do that...Hey, I want it SIMPLE! I don't want to have to figure 93740174 features and stuff outside of the game, I want to play the game and have fun.

In all honesty, I want the manual, the tech tree...and I was hoping for some cool artwork. But that online enforced thingy (1 week delay is enforcing) is what made me furious.

And if 2K has nothing to do with it, than I will just be mad at StarDock instead.

My computer is a big toy, don't expect me to necessarily understand all the "simple" stuff, burn it to a CD, what the hell does that means? I understand the words and basically what it does, I have no clues to what it means in details and...I have no desire to understant the working process, I want to PLAY and to have FUN (and understanding how it work certainly cut in the FUN part).

Defend them all you want, at best you will change my furious state to a SAD state, which IMO is prolly even worser, since from a furious state I can become overhyped and overjoyed in time...from a SAD state, doubftul.

Big words means nothing. This computer is an overgrown TOY and I want it to work. I miss the box and I have no clues on what to do to have them ship it.

the Stardock folks are usually hanging around the boards, so I'm sure one of them can help you better than any of us.
But here's the page for Stardock contact info. I'm sure if you send an email to Sales or Customer Support, they can help you with getting a CD shipped:

And Frogboy did create a thread explaining about the shortage of retail CDs, if you're at all interested:

Anofalye,

Sounds like you'd be better off buying a console ; p

The manual is on the menu when you launch the game. And you can access the tech tree when deciding what to research (well not quite the whole thing at once). So what's the problem? If you can't remember a password, that's not Stardock's problem. I'm not pissed at you personally, I just am pissed seeing all these topics around here that are resolved in the manual, or the site, or the readme, or the tutorials... I thought this was supposed to be the last resort? And yes, I am awaiting my box. And I want to see it all pretty in silver. But meanwhile I'll be conquering the galaxy. 'Nuff said.

Keep in mind that only people that ordered directly from Stardock have the ability to download directly. Everyone else has to wait for their boxed copy to be sent to them (from amazon, ebgames and the like), so I think Ano's problem lies there...that the retail service used hasn't been prompt.

We're still trying to figure out what happened there (Best Buy has the game, where other retailers are still waiting) but as we learn more we'll try and keep you all posted.
