prison planets

Hey what if you found a really hellish planet (like planet quality 1) it shouldn't be completely useless (like it was in gc1 , don't know about gc2 but i'm guessing it's the same)you should able to build a "prison planet" which would raise the morale in all other planets (or within a certain radius). Also it should yield high quality soldiers (like in dune...) however when it comes to morale bonus it should be probably limited, it should also be a high cost venture and possibly require high end techs, what do you guys think.

I'm not even sure that level 1 planets exist. I haven't seen any.

If I am not mistaken in GalCiv2 the minimal PQ is 5 (of cause there are 0).

To "raise morale" use starbases.

All of my planets are prison planets.

No matter how many tv's I buy them they generally become very unhappy. So I just build big transporters and go store them in stasis-vats at a poorly defended starbase hoping that someday the Drengin will come eat them. If they don't, eventually I'll have them reprogrammed in their sleep as soldiers and use them as cannon-fodder to take a neighbor's world and start the cycle anew.

wha- no hell planets! yeah but wouldn't be cool to have a prison planet if you're an evil civ. After all it would be a pretty cool sendng dissidents off for a lifetime of hell...

Yup. My Mars was only PQ 4 as well. Thankfully there was a PQ 17 in a nearby star system!

well I think it could definitely be a good mid to late game tech for evil civs as long as it had high maintenance (for balance) and it should also make good soldiers so perhaps if you colonise a planet of pq 3/4 or less you can build social project (with tech of course) prison. and with it a small number of pop from other nearby planets will be transported automatically each turn. also you should be able to build one class of ships (ltransports mostly) though nothing with more than a certain attack can be made, when these transports are used in combat there should be a suitable bonus and possible damage to structures on the planet. any other ideas?

ditto.
A few turns later, i then had a prison break, and three rogue ships appeared near the planet that then proceeded to wreak havok... destroying my few small fighters and undefended starbases (it was early in my first game and I just wasn't prepared).

so, really, I like the way they've already implemented the idea of a galactic prison.
it would be interesting to have a kind of "throwaway" planet that you used specifically as a kind of prison, but it would have to be limited to prevent exploiting it.

In the one game I started last night after the download, Mars was PQ 4.

In the Beta5 Mars is usually PQ 4 but once I saw it as PQ 3. In the same game I saw other PQ 3 planets.

While playing the Beta5 I had a prison break from Earth. Although the ships were huge with lots of hit points they had weak weapons/defenses so were no match for my single small sized defender protecting Earth!
