Multiplicity causing massive lag on secondary machine

Ok, strange problem I'm having: If I have an sort of window, application, or dialog selected on my primary machine, and I'm working on my secondary machine, Multiplicity seems to start spamming some command over the network that continually attempts to scroll horizontal scrollbars to the right. This uses ~10% of my wired 100Mbps network and 50% of the CPU on the secondary machine.

- If no horizontal scrollbar is present on the foreground window on the secondary machine, everything works fine.

- If there is no foreground window selected on the primary machine (i.e. I clicked the desktop before moving the mouse to the secondary) everything works fine on the secondary.

Example:
1) select desktop on primary
2) open "My Computer" on secondary, and resize it so that a horizontal scollbar is present.
3) select a foreground window on the primary and then switch back to the secondary.

Upon switching back to the secondary the scrollbar for the foreground window will immediately jump all the way to the right and massive lag will commence until I swich back to the primary machine or move a window to the foreground that does not contain a horizontal scrollbar.

Please help me fix this.

Do you have a Microsoft mouse with tilt wheel?

If you stop point32.exe on your primary pc, does the problem stop?

If so, what version of intellipoint do you have installed?

I do indeed have an MS mouse with a tilt wheel. While I didn't outright kill point32.exe I did A) disable the tilt wheel function and B) Try changing the mouse type to something without a tilt wheel at all. Neither of these fixed the problem. I believe I restarted multiplicity after doing these two steps. I'll try some more stuff tonight when I get a chance, but please continue to look into this as it is clearly a multiplicity problem; I don't consider disabling tilting or killing point32.exe to be a valid long term solution.

I just purchased Multiplicity (not the pro) and experience the very same issue. I use Multiplicity 1.02 (latest available as of yesterday), an MS Wireless Laser 6000 mouse with IntelliPoint 5.5. I've linked the two PC through Firewire instead of my local network. The primary is XP PRO SP2 and the secondary is XPx64, all updates you can imagine of are applied on both.

Basically, everything works cool so far except for the very same issue Veldrin is experiencing. No scroll bar, it's smooth as silk. Scroll bar in the picture, it's lag fest! I've check the task manager and it's not due to any process grabbing all cpu ressources. It looks very much like a simple bug in Multiplicity possibly with an IntelliPoint feature or something like that. I haven't check if it still does it with IntelliPoint uninstalled(and I won't since i'd loose some of my mouse functionality)

Doh, forgot to mention that killing ipoint.exe solves the issue, which is why I stated it has to be between Multiplicity and IntelliPoint.

If you are using SDC to handle installs, upgrades, and uninstalls, check the button at the bottom to see beta builds.

Try that.

Thanks Zubaz It was actually checked out and the version I can see is 1.02.006 (10/15/05). Btw, if I subscribe to ThinDesk, would it enable me to get the very latest version instead of the "official" one?

I think the latest beta is 1.04a[b].002

I'd try to redownload SDC and install over your current buld. Every once in a while SDC drops the ball.

Thank you again Zubaz. I just did what you suggested and unfortunately, it didn't solve the problem. I have the latest SDC build but it keeps offering the 1.02 release of Multiplicity. I guess i'll have to give a visit to Stardock help desk to know what's going on with this

Support ticket sent to Stardock on this particular issue. I'll update this thread when i'll get feedback from them.

FYI, with build 1.04[b].003 (03/03/06), IntelliType now works very well. No more of the massive lag issue on the secondary machine.

If i may add

I have been using Myltiplicity for over 4 years now not a hitch until recently.

the minute i switched to a WAN network, i started experiencing the mouse lag on the second machine and the ocaasional disconnects.

I am stumped.

Any help is appreciated

oh and i use a standard logitech mouse, i did not see the exe file under processes on either machines.

Same experience her, used Multiplicity since the very beginning, and now it starts to fail... lag and disconnects... not good...

I have also used another tool called MaxiVista, which can do the same (and more) and today I installed a freeware program called Synergy (found on SourceForge) which does the same as Multiplicity. Somewhat more tricky (but not difficult) to setup, but it works. No lag!!

So Stardock, fix lag problems in Mulitplicity, otherwise you may loose customers....

Kind regards,
Roar

Wops... I didn't notice that Thinkdesk was discontinued... Well, well... probably they didn't manage to fix the bugs...
