Moving install

Cause problems?

I "installed" the game on an external drive via another computer (laptop). I want to install it on my desktop PC. Is it safe to just move the /Glaciv2 dir to /program files/ on my PC?

Er why not hook whichever system you want up to your net connection and d/l it? There are quite a few d/ls that you can do a week before you get the infamous... You must contact us to keep d/l... sprite.

Trust me I would have done that if it were that easy.

No internet where the PC is and only have wireless on laptop. Would cost me some extra cash just to download the game. And I rather not....it's no prob playing on the laptop but I would like to be able to move it easy to the PC.

hmm.. well.. in a word "Registry" ... thats a bet why it may not work..

I don't remember the entire procedure but theres a way to archive with SDC and reinstall that archive... which would be better (Archive it on your laptop and later reinstall that archive to your home PC)

I am in the same boat, with a laptop at school and a computer with a superior graphics card at home without an internet connection ( well actually it has one but its dodgy wireless and it would be nearly impossible to download huge files like galciv2). Can anyone be more detailed about exactly how to do this?

Copy files over to the required place on the computer.

Go to Start > Run > Regedit

Look for tab -
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
SOFTWARE
Stardock
Drengin.net
Galciv2

Click the last one. On the right side of the screen there will be a series of icons. Double click the Path one. Change that to the location you moved the files to. i.e. C:\Games\GalCiv2

All done.

It is my understanding that this is the procedure for moving GC2 to another location ON THE SAME COMPUTER using the same operating system/registry. Just like these guys, I also need to move the program to ANOTHER COMPUTER. Does anyone know what is involved in changing the registry to add the program to another computer?

Once they game is complete (i.e. Tuesday) simply make an archive of the game in SDC. Then burn the zip archive it creates to a CD or copy to external storage and simply install that on your computer with no net connection. I did that a lot with the original GalCiv. Creates both a backup (inlcuding saved games and mods) and allows you to install or update on another computer easily.
