New security concern

I'm happy with Multiplicity and intend to register it at expiration of my trial, but I have a security concern that doesn't seem to have been addressed in this forum.

On several occasions, Zone Alarm detected an attempt by multipl.exe to access the Internet. I am not talking about access to my LAN, which of course it needs, but to Internet addresses. Here are two examples: 205.188.221.6 (registered with America Online) and 216.73.86.187 (registered with Double Click). Denying access to those requests does not seem to impair Multiplicity's functionality, but I still wonder why Multiplicity would want to access those addresses.

Any idea?

Thanks

I have no idea.  Multiplicity will only connect to IP addresses listed as secondary machines on your PC.  I cannot see how it would decide to access those other IPs, but given one of the IPs is registered with Double Click I would scan your PC for adware / spyware.

I ought to point out that any such adware/spyware would not have come from Multiplicity itself.

I'm wondering what SHOULD be in my HOSTS files.....mine says

127.0.0.1 local host

what does this mean...it's in a lmhosts file that opens with IE...?

# The following example illustrates all of these extensions:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino #PRE #DOM:networking #net group's DC
# 102.54.94.102 "appname \0x14" #special app server
# 102.54.94.123 popular #PRE #source server
# 102.54.94.117 localsrv #PRE #needed for the include
#
# #BEGIN_ALTERNATE
# #INCLUDE \\localsrv\public\lmhosts
# #INCLUDE \\rhino\public\lmhosts
# #END_ALTERNATE

the only thing I can think of for you is that there were changes made in your hosts files....

maybe also with helping you.....somebody out there might be able to help me, too......????

I've run several spy scanners (incl. SpySweeper) and don't seem to have any spyware.

What I have noticed since my first post is that multitpl.exe will try to access those outside IP addresses from the primary machine immediately after I shut down or logoff from the secondary machine.

I've configured Zone Alarm to prevent multipl.exe from connecting to the Internet, with no adverse consequence on Multiplicity's functionality, but I still wonder why the program would want to do that.
