How can I keep the beta and start downloading the new release?

yes, we're greedy but you spoiled us...

I read in several posts that we can keep playing the beta while downloading the first pieces of the final GCII.

So do I simply install into a new folder (assuming I check the "Prompt to enter an Installation directory" in the settings)?

Did anyone already succeed?

I was told to copy the folder where the beta is somewhere else. I just renamedit galciv2beta and installed the full version on another folder (as you suggest in your post).

I just launched it and it worked (I did not try to play though, but apparently it was fine)

I was able to successfully run the Beta after renaming the directory (GalCiv2Beta) and then installing the new GalCiv2 preload into the old directory.

Of note: I was never able to successfully download the multimedia files for the Beta. On a lark I copied the Movies and a couple other directories (sorry, don't remember, at work currently) from the live version to the Beta and it worked. Was somewhat surreal actually hearing sound effects and seeing all those cut scenes

On the other hand, I tried copying the GalCiv2.exe and some other needed .dll file from the Beta to the preload directory... It ran... However, came up with a bunch of "cannot find string" messages at the menu so I quit out and deleted the executable and .dll. I can wait until the 21st to see what the real version looks like

I was told not to mix beta files with the full downloaded version, but you're right: I was not told to not mix the full version files with the beta... Maybe I should try that.

On the other hand, in my version of the beta there are still a few bugs that have certainly been dealt with in the released version. And from what I heard in the journals the AI was improved during the gama test, so maybe i'll wait till 21st to see th game at its best (and not just looking good ...)
