What's Up with SDC Version Updates?

Three days in a row the SDC icon was blinking when I started my PC, and the balloon appeared saying that there is a new SDC version available. I X'd out of the balloon each time - it appears immediately while my PC is still loading its startup programs (all slow-loading Stardock apps, BTW. OD+ alone doesn't complete loading for 9 minutes!) Trying to connect and download updates while the PC is still booting up is not a good idea, as you all know, and the balloon is always in the way and annoying.
After everything is loaded up, I open SDC, but there is no indication that there is a new SDC version. No way to force the update that I can see. Tools>Check for Application Updates does nothing, as there are no updates for the other SD apps.
At this rate, I'll never get the SDC update! What's up with that?
