Fleet commanders

So here's an idea for later editions possibly, since there isn't ever going to be any kind of tactical combat, and it can be said that we play this game from the "big picture" view and not the close in combat... How about somehow letting us train fleet commanders with special traits to enhance/influence combat.

I.e. you could train a commander to be aggressive or defensive in combat and this could effect fleet stats based on the individual commander. It could add a little more flavor to battles if you decide that you want to send in your most aggresive commander against that drengin fleet, or post a defensive minded commander on a trade route, etc.

There's a couple different ways you could go about the idea, maybe even somehow incorporate some of that famous AI you have into them. Anyhow, any thoughts?

I agree that fleet commanders could introduce an interesting element to Gal Civ 2. And without getting bogged down into a tactical game. Part of the fun in books like the Honor Harrington and The Stars at War series (both David Weber products) is that they focus on the big picture from the admiral's chair.

I'd love to send fleets into action with the Drengin equivalent of James T. Kirk aboard the flagship.
