Plantes

Custom Planets to be more precise

I don’t think anyone has raised this, but the custom spaceships gave me an idea. What about custom planets? You create the look of the planet, i.e. the continents, seas, mountains and other things that are normally found on planets like rivers and such. Then when you start a new game, your custom planets are randomly chosen (if they are chosen at all), and assigned a level and bonuses. This could also be used to make the homeworld for any custom civs, in which case you should be able to choose the level of the planets (who wants a level 3 homeworld) but probably not the number of bonuses, because that could be abused by those who exhibit drengin like traits :@ (if you go out of your way to run over a turtle when it is crossing the street...this may be you).

That is all.

Nay! I disagree. NAAAY!

the question you have to ask is will the investment in implementing such a thing reflect the benefits?

dunno have to be some sort of system to prevent it from becoming an uber planet that and like you said if the planets are being randomly distributed then you might not even c it or it may be owned by another player or u might not even recognize it when you c it

so i think that the devs should leave it to the modders to come up with this and let the devs work at something else like more ship components and stronger AI

yea customizing your home planet would be nice. if you think about it its factual to because that race has been there so long the planet proably affected by them. as for other planets, be cool to design continents in the shape of your name. as for it would take to implemeant this... im just guess but the code for this would proably be alot to put in. (cough Galciv II expansion cough)

Yes... and no.. I think its possible by modifying certain xml files but the NO part is the game itself doesnt allow for that. But who's to say you can't do some custom art and and stuff yourself. Yes customplanets.xml is the one...

A very small thing and I am sure it is not in the first release.

While a few planets, like the near home world 4-5 PQ (Mars), are capped at low quality, the majority of 6-9 PQ will wind up being at least 10-11 after planet improvement.

It would make sense if the look of the planet changed if the PQ goes high enough. It always seems a little odd adding farms to the ice and desert planets when they have improved to over PQ 10.

Like the UI change that may be brought back later it might be something to think about.

I like the way they did it. Every single planet is going to be randomly generated, different and unique. I like that much better than having to put time in designing my own planets.

Believe me, designing ship is great, great fun, but let's keep it at that. The time and resources that have to go into a planet designer are much better spent improving the AI or adding shipparts to the game like others already said.

I would think it may be possible to add custom-textured planets (non-random), considering that Earth is (and I think Mars too), but then again that one alone may be hardcoded. You'd have to check with the devs on if that's possible to do without modifying the code.
