what do I need if...?

Suppose I don't want to run any themes per se. Suppose I just want to change the colour, fonts, size...maybe do blending...of all the elements of the XP desktop in the same way I can change the colour, fonts, do blending, with the Windows classic desktop. What do I need to do that? Will Windowblinds by itself accomplish that or do I need some part of Object Desktop?

I'm no expert and I'm not sure that I fully understand what you want to achieve, but WindowBlinds changes most aspects of you GUI, in other words, you can change colour schemes, font sizes/colours, blending, etc. There are many thenes available here at
WC, some quite intricate and fancy, other quite basic and very much along the lines of the general XP look. Depending on your tastes, I'm sure you'd find WB just the thing you're looking for, but to change icons, cursors, etc, as well, you might want to look at the full ObjectDesktop package to experiment with various ideas.
There is a trial version of WB5, and a shareware version of WB4.6 that you could play around with before deciding to buy, if they meet your needs.
The software tab atop the page will take you there or visit Stardock.com to check it all out.
Best of luck with it
