explorer.exe is rising...rising...rising

explorer.exe is rising...rising...rising

Over the last week I have noticed that the explorer process has steadily been climbing...I mean as high as 222,000K...

What could be going on?

If I restart, it is about 25,000...then it starts to slowly ascend...after about 3-4 days it reaches 150,000-200,000K.

btw...No viruses, spyware or anything like that.

Well...That was short lived >

Just checked and explorer.exe is back up to 186,000K...This is ridiculous. I haven't formatted for a year...maybe it's time

Look in Task Manager/Performance and see what your CPU usage is.........

If it's 5,6 percent that's fine. Unload SDC and WC (if you have it) trays and see if that does anything to bring the process down.

Actually my CPU usage is usually between 0-3%...I don't use SCD or WCBrowser

Ok...kill the explorer .exe process. Wait several minutes...Windows will restart it. See what the reading is on the process re-start.

Ok...I killed the explorer process and the reading on it is 25,800K.

...let's see how long it stays there......do not do a re-boot until we get a good reading. In the meantime look in 'msconfig' (use the run command) and under 'startup' see if you can spot anything strange.

In the startup I only have 3 items...Norton stuff.

exlporer is now at 30,644K
Yeah...I really didn't want to proach the subject at the beginning, but my mine keeps coming back to that Norton 'stuff'...especially diskeeper. If your explorer is still rising disable all options in Norton except your anti-virus. Make sure nothing is set to start except NAV and re-boot.

BTW: is there any MS patches you have not installed?

Ok...Disabled all the Norton stuff...Booted to just over 26,000K and now it's 27,644K and rising slowly.

I thought I had the Diskeeper software to run automatically but I forgot I had disabled that about a month ago

I just uninstalled it...same thing...booted to 26,000 and immediately up to 27,754 and rising >

Actually, I'm glad it wasn't Norton. Which Java are you running MS or Sun...look in Internet Options Advance and scroll down to Java

Under MS VM... JIT Complier for VM is the only one enabled

OK..you're running SP1 and not SP1a. Go to add & remove programs and un-install Hotfix 811493.

I removed that one a while back when it was causing 'hanging' problems and then a couple weeks later reinstalled it...I will go ahead and remove it again and see what happens.

Maybe I'll wait just a few more minutes though...I reinstalled NAV and after booting, explorer was at 27,000...I opened up several instances of explorer and it hasn't budged...Perhaps that did something

Yeah..if this just started a week ago...nothing in the patches or service packs should be affecting anything...my money is still on Norton.
