explorer.exe is rising...rising...rising

Over the last week I have noticed that the explorer process has steadily been climbing...I mean as high as 222,000K...

What could be going on?

If I restart, it is about 25,000...then it starts to slowly ascend...after about 3-4 days it reaches 150,000-200,000K.

btw...No viruses, spyware or anything like that.

While I see if I can get mine to get anywhere near that...go to Folder Options/View and check 'Do not cache thumbnails' The cache files in each folder are hidden so you may not get a drop until you re-boot.

Thanks yrag...I just tried that...I'll go ahead and reboot and see if it slows the pace

Just restarted...explorer is at 26,000K...I'll have to give it a little while and see what happens...Thanks again.

You should get a flux of about 4,000 to 5,000 when you open files and then it should return to 26,000 upon close. It should never vary anymore then that. Right click on drive ..properties and make sure you have 'index servicing' enabled. Let us know how it worked..

When did you change your swap file size?

When I first built this machine...Just about a year ago.

I think you have a memory leak...try running this proggie (3.0) http://www.memtest86.com/ and see what it gives you. BTW here's a good guide to swap settings http://www.serverwatch.com/tutorials/article.php/2177271 I don't think at this point that your PF is the problem. Something...somewhere is caching to the explorer and I can't duplicate it...will keep trying...

I'll try that and let you know

Hey...do one thing first...open task mgr and right click on explorer...what does it say under 'set priority'?

I'm running it right now on my other machine...Priority is 'Normal'

How long should it run...It's been going for more than 10 minutes...all I am seeing is:

ex: 1000
ax: 020D
bx: 0000
cx: 0006
dx: 0000

Then they just flash as it moves from top to bottom then top to bottom again.

10 minutes is long enough...that's not it. Do you have any Tasks scheduled to run on auto?

Just Norton...Also Diskeeper, every Friday night at around midnight.

hummmmm...it could be stuck on 'run'...check your processes and make sure nothing 'strange' is running

I always monitor my processes...Nothing running that shouldn't be...

After about 15 minutes the mem program finished but all I had was the flashing cursor at the bottom left corner of the screen

That means it passed on one pass....all's fine there. Now if we could only figure out this explorer thingy......
