one more question about buying XP

If I purchase the DA in the box, can I download before I get it, like you can with the original game or the gold edition.

If you purchase DA with a CD-by-mail option, you will still be able to download it immediately. The 'box' in that option is just a disc with DA and the pdf manual on it, however, not a full retail box as with GC2:Gold.
