A poor person's find

When I was reloading programs onto my computer I really didn't want to load quicken but I did because even though I only use the account register it is a real help in the monthly budget. I looked in the add/remove programs and found that it was 142 mb big so I went looking for something smaller (I have sometimes wished for a simple DX checkbook). I found this program ( http://www.mechcad.net/products/acemoney/index_lite.shtml ). The lite version is free and it seems very good for someone like me with a simple budget. The pro version you can add more accounts... and there is a sale now. It only costs $30.

Quicken was about 142 mb big (installed), this one is around 3mb (installed). Quicken had lots of bells and whistles to be sure. But so does this little program.

I know there are a lot of young people here, a lot of students. I thought something like this might be helpful.

I just downloaded and installed that one also.. Have not gone through it much, but it does seem to do the basics and little beyond well enough.

what version of quicken do you have?

i bought 2004 in august.. and, well i hate it.. i came from ms money and i found the quicken interface so unaccessable.. something as simple as depositing your weekly paycheck turned into a nightmare because i couldn't adjust certain taxes. i bought money 2003 last week (9.99 on clearance!! wooo!!!) and i've just started loading my info back in. However, the money 2003 won't open a quicken 2004 file i've got 6 months of register i'd like to get into one file so.. know where i can get quicken 2003/2002 preferably..well..doesn't have to be legal for 2 minutes of work.. shareware/trial? old version tho?

i should have mentioned before: btw, reason why i''d ask for the software is because i couldn''t find a converter. luckily i happen to be at my parents and i just realized my dad has every old version for like, the last 5 years. but shoddy luck, he already bought his own 2004 so i can''t give em this one.

Well DC, it looks like this program might be able too import.... here is a quote:

After fighting with the latest versions of both Microsoft Money and Intuit Quicken, I was pleased to download (and register) AceMoney. It's easy to use and gives me control that the other programs won't. I imported all of my data with very minor adjustments and have decided to uninstall the other two programs in favor of this one.

Oh, I have Quicken 2002, and the one before that. But I already like this one better. Especially the small size.

oo. thanks ill check it out.

its strange, i don't understand why quicken gave me such a hard time.. at first glance everything looks so easy and automated, but.. it might be in that automation.. it just locks you in and you can't make minor adjustments. i also couldn't find my way around the menus, or make heads or tails of the help file. maybe i'm just too used to microsoft i'm in over my head now, ther eis no way to escape from them.

I owe so much money that using any of these programs would frighten me. I prefer the head in sand option

it is scary, with a big red number on every screen showing you that your net worth is negative thousands of dollars

i get a really clean feeling though when i log in and the computer says 'you have a bill due', and i pay it, and it doesnt sit in the back of my head for the next 20 days. i also enjoy knowing exactly how much i have available and how much i know i really don't have to spend (my landlord doesn't cash my rent checks for up to 4 months sometimes, so it looks like i ahve a lot more money then i really do). my credit still sucks ass but at least i know WHERE the money is going..
